What is Trastuzumab?

The drug trastuzumab (Herceptin) is used to treat metastatic breast cancer and early breast cancer. Some breast cancers have high amounts of a protein called HER2/neu on the surface of the cancer cells. Trastuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that interferes with the HER2/neu receptor.
