Sulpiride

What is Sulpiride?

Sulpiride (brand names Dogmatil (HK, SG, PH), Dolmatil (IE, UK), Eglonyl (RU, ZA), Espiride (ZA), Modal (IL), Sulpor (UK) and others) is an atypical antipsychotic drug (although some texts have referred to it as a typical antipsychotic) of the benzamide class used mainly in the treatment of psychosis associated with schizophrenia and major depressive disorder, and sometimes used in low dosage to treat anxiety and mild depression. Sulpiride is commonly used in Europe, Russia and Japan. Levosulpiride is its purified levo-isomer and is sold in India for similar purpose. So far it has not been approved in the United States, Canada and Australia. The drug is chemically and clinically similar to amisulpride.

Hello XXXXXXX I hope this message finds you well!

Sulpiride 25mg is a fine choice as an augmenting (add-on) agent. At doses below roughly 500-600mg, and certainly at the very low dose of 25mg, it acts as a dopamine blocker at inhibitory dopamine...

Hi,
I am now on Lexapro 15 mg, Klonopin 3 mg, Keppra 1000 mg, Solian (amisulpride) 100 mg and Sulpiride 25 mg. My psychiatrist added Sulpiride 25 mg to avoid the dopaminergic effects of Solian at 100 mg. I would like to know how long it takes to Sulpiride to work. I was before during one month on Solian 25 mg and back to Solian 100 mg three weeks ago. I feel some improvement since one week ago (i have a "fixation" with open windows of cars in the streets) but it's not clear to understand if it is Solian working or the beginning of Sulpiride. I was told here that Sulpiride takes 2 weeks to work, so please if possible confirm me this information.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Dear Dr. Sheppre,
Since today the chane from Solian to Sulpiride seems to show during hours full results, but i still have to wait and my psychiatrist told me that the rythm of Solian to go wayay from body depends on fats in the body. I had in the past problems with Solian: once it was taken, i was not able to eat carbohydrates because i had problems, including for sleeping. Until now, even without Solian, after eating carbohydrates after my dosage of Sulpiride makes me feel somnolence. I would ile to know if it means that i still have Solian in my system or if i have to take care also with Sulpiride when eating carbohydrates.
Thanks beforehand, XXXXXXX

Hi

Im a 30 year old male
I weight 122kg and 173cm tall.

((please read to the end. and sorry in advance for my English)).

Last month I started a course of Sulpiride 50mg twice a day because I started to feel mild panic attacks.
after I stopped Sulpiride for 3~5 days I woke up nauseated at midnight with a panic attack (I felt lightheaded, about to faint, about to die and extremly panic). I took 100mg of sulpiride and things started to get under control. After that I started to take sulpiride and mebeverine (Duspatalin) because I felt some heavyness and cramps in abdominal area. So I thought its IBS for sure.

Symptoms start to take the following form:
1. Dizziness.
2. Foggy brain.
3. Social anxiety.
4. Bloated.
5. Burning stomach.
6. Depressed.
7. Having the feeling that something wrong with me and Im gonna die.

So I visited a Consultant and explained to him everything and he examined me and told me that everything is fine and I have IBS and I shouldnt think alot because it wont be gone until I have a peace of mind.

And he persicriped to me Sulpiride 50mg 3 times a day + Digestica 3 times after meals.

After 2 days I felt a bit good. I stopped the Sulpiride for 4 days then I started to be extremly depressed, I went back on Sulpiride now as the doctor persceiped. And I feel good. But I still have some symptoms like:
- Dizziness
- foggy brain
-Social anxiety
- feeling Im about to faint any moment.
- mild shortness of breathe.

So I went to a lab and ordered a full blood test. And I attached the report.

Please tell me what is wrong with me and what the required treatment.

Thank you XXXXXXX

Dear Dr. Sheppe,
I've been on Sulpiride 100 mg and without Solian for more or least 5 weeks now. Some days i feel that i have a full recovery, during almost all the day, but i still have some downs in my "obsessive paranoia" symptoms. Since you told me that for a person on Solian during years (more than 10 years for me) it takes several weeks for withdrawal, i would like to know if a more precise estimation is possible (for example, 6 o 8 weeks to reach a full reset of dopaminergic receptors, more or least).
Thanks beforehand, XXXXXXX

Hello XXXXXXX and thanks for your question.

I would expect a more or less full reset of receptors by now. I don't think we can any longer call what you are experiencing "withdrawal." Rather, it may be the new normal baseline state of your illness....
