Hi I have been prescribed Nexium for too much acid and gastritis. I also had Helicobratra pylori bacteria and completed course of treatment for this about 2 weeks ago. I am still prescribed 20mg of nexium. This week I am experiencing enlarged and painful breasts and I feel that although it is a very rare side effect of Nexium that I am affected in this way by Nexium. I am wondering if there is an alternative medication that I can take instead of Nexium. Note I seem to be extra sensitive to medications at the best of times. thank you

I had an endoscopy done and H. Ployri was found. I was on treatment Nexium Ph7 and finished the course with only a couple side effects. One been rapid heart rate and shortness of breath, which I still get from time to time. After I finished the 7 day course, I had no symptoms of gnawing or pain, no neausa, felt great. After 4 to 5 days, the feeling of rapid heart rate and shortness of breath still occur, but now I experience food like symptoms stuck in my throat. I researched online that this is still just acid reflux. After Ph7, I'm still taking Nexium 40mg (1 per day). Sometimes after I eat, I feel funny within my entire body and feel like if I should go to the hospital. I tell myself these are just side effects of nexium or acid reflux and the feeling starts to go away. I'm told to continue taking Nexium 40mg for 6 months. Should I be concerned about difficulty getting food down (only sometimes) and rapid heart rate / shortness of breath.

I've been taking nexium (20 mg a day) for the past ten years. I believe that as a result of this I have regular minor pain in my shoulders. I've read that minerals are leeched from the body with this use. Two questions: first, is there an easyn way to replace the loss of minerals; second, is there an alternative to using nexium?

doctor1 MD

HI
Thanks for your query.
I do not think that the use of nexium can explain your shoulder pain.
I would recommend an X Ray of the shoulder and a consultation with an orthopaedician for further evaluation of your problem.
Hope this helps
Good luck.

Dr. I have been on nexium for 5 weeks now and my nausea which I felt after eating has pretty much disappeared. Great. I'm still taking the nexium now because my doctor didn't tell me when to stop. 1. Do I stop now that all of my original symptoms have subsided? 2. The side effects are very ugly for me. Tried to play 18 holes of golf the other day, and I felt exhausted after 12 holes and had to quit. My GI had me take a stress test 2 weeks ago which all came back normal. I can only relate the fatigue to the nexium. Everything else in my life outside of the treatment for gasritis is normal. Thoughts please. I have been a relatively active healthy person my whole life and have been playing golf for 30 years and never experienced anything like that. By the way I am a 54 year old black male.

Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
Nexium is used for a variety of diagnosis and the time of use depends on each diagnosis. It is usually prescribed for 4 weeks and it is considered to continue for 4 weeks more if the symptoms are not resolved completely.

Is it safe to reduce my daily dose of Citalopram from 40 mg daily to 20 mg? I am 76 years old and have just been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. I want to take Nexium, but the pharmacist told me the maximum safe dose of Citalopram when taking Nexium is 20 mg daily.

doctor1 MD

Yes ,you have to reduce your dose of citalopram because Nexium can cause an increase in your blood levels of citalopram by interacting with the enzyme that metabolizes citalopram.

If the dose is not reduced,it may cause some side effects like irregular heart beats which can be life threatening....

Can tonsillitis cause Stomach and Intestional problems, from the drainage of the infected puss, or mucus into the stomach region? I am wondering if my laying down at nite with post nasal drip is causeing the infected mucus/puss to get into my stomach and cause my stomach to get overly gassy, and now i am having serious bouts of constipation, and sometimes even diahrrea..... I feel feverish and almost like I am near shock when these episodes occur, or could it not be associated with that at all, and possibaly be colitis/diverticulitis, or even something more serious like Chrones disease, or Cancer? My bloodwork comes back normal other than a vitamin D deficiency. I also have tingling sensations in my extremities quite often. When these episodes happen, i feel burning in my stomach associated with frequent feeling of having to use the bathroom, but then cant cause I am backed up. I also have been passing foul smelling green stools, and very loose mucus stools as well...... I just had blood work done again, and cannot go to the doc for another week because i am leaving the states to go on my honeymoon, however, I would hate a flair up there. Is there anything u would so kindly recommend, or suggest that maybe I havnt tried? I am currently on Hyoscyamine (.375MG TAB twice daily), as well as aprazolam (2MG twice daily) I was on Nexium but cant afford it right now, so have also been taking Prilosec OTC, and it hasnt helped nearly as much as the Nexium did. I want comfort again, and am sick of these symptoms plaguing me each and every day.......... Pls get back to me here, and pls also send me an email of ur sugestions to YYYY@YYYY , and thankyou for your advise in advance............ I just cant wait to feel better for good.............. Over the last 7-8 years I had recurring chest pain . A series of tests were done including ECGs, stress test, halter test, Percentine perfusion test and CT scan andin late 2011 my cardiologist concluded that the symptoms were not heart related. Over the last two months my symptoms have returned: chest pain radiating into left arm, left side rib cage, chronic headache, sometime severe usually pressure in the ears and around them. Usually I wake up very early in the morning with chest pain, sometime palpitations and headache. Today I had a severe attack of headache as if my head is in a vice. It continues. I suffer from Acid reflux, somewhat hi blood pressure ( highest readinfg 139/ 78; average of last 11 readings 128/72) hi cholesterol, hypo thyroid (TSH up to 21.8). I am on Nexium 40mg, Metoprolol 50mg, Lipitor 20mg and El Troxin 0.075. My Endicronologist is trying to calibrate the Eltroxin dose. He thinks my symptoms are not Thyroid related. I have been trying to get an appointment with my GP since june 25. She is on holiday and the earliest appointment I got is August 17. My symptoms -- chest pain, headache, radiating pain in shoulder blade, sometimes left ribs, pressure in the eyes, ears continue and I think progressively getting worse. I was treated for prostate 8 years ago, monitored annually the PSA has been much below zero, negligible sometime difficult to trace. Sorry for such a complicated story. I do not know what to do. Should I go to the emergency everyday???? Will appreciate any suggestions

10 yr old daughter s symptoms are sneezing that clears her sinus cavities several times a day even though she has no congestion, drainage, burping, feeling of food sitting in throat or esophagus, nausea, hardness in stomach. Cat scan of sinuses showed very slight inflammation; upper endoscopy w/ biopsies & ph probe were all clear; scratch test for food & environment all clear. Allergy meds, Nexium, Prilosec failed to resolve symptoms. What might cause these symptoms?
