Hello, I am prescribed oxycontin op 10 mg, 3x a day. My insurance is very expensive for 90 pills a month. It would be cheaper if I was prescribed a higher dosage, such as 40mg and split it in fourth and still took the 10mg 3x a day.
My question is whether oxycontin op can be cut in halfs and then fourths? I know that they cannot be crushed or chewed as they are turned into gel. Obviously, that is not a problem for me. However, I am concerned that cutting them will render them in effective as well. I would like to know this to see whether it is worth asking my doctor for a change in prescription. I felt uneasy about asking her for the prescription in the first place as there is such a negative stigma attached to this medication. I would greatly appreciate your answer. Thank you.

doctor1 MD

Hello,

Thanks for your query.

Oxycontin can be cut into pieces & can be used if preserved in moisture free, sterile environment with minimum loss of potency.

It is available in 10, 20, 30, 40mg, even generic version is also in market in some country.

Oxycontin slow release or sustained release or...

Please help. I'm a 30 year old Caucasian female, 5'9", 180 lbs. My boyfriend told me that he relapsed and used heroin yesterday. He only told me after we had sex and ejaculated inside me. I'm very upset and don't want any part of that...especially since I'm looking for a new job. Will heroin pass through semen to give a positive result for drug testing in employment? What kinds of tests are used for drug testing? I don't do drugs and now am worried about what this might mean. Please help.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

Please relax and do not worry. Heroin does not passes through semen. There are no chances of it entering via this route into your body.

During the preliminary test blood, urine and if needed hair /skin / nail samples are used to test presence of drug.

Hence...

Hello Doctor. I am writing not because of myself, but because of my sister who I am really worried about. She was involved in a car accident in January of 2010 and has had 3 back surgeries due to this. She has been taking oxycodone and or vicodin every since. She just found out she is pregnant. She doesn t know what to do. She is extremely happy but worried about the pain pills. She wants to try to taper off of them, but I read that could be dangerous for the fetus. Do you recommend her getting on suboxone which I read can be dangerous as well or subutex which I ve read can be safe. We definitely don t want to go the methadone route for obvious reasons. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. She is 37 years old and is worried about her age as well. Thank you Doctor and look forward to hearing from you. David
