Lyrica

Questions and answers on "Lyrica"

My wife is on lyrica just come off 150mg in morning and night and is now on 150 only at night because of dizziness and other side effects. She is on Lyrica because of pain associated with a mastectomy she had nine years ago and does not go away. Thee pain still persists although lyrica does get it down for a while. The doctor has ordered blood tests and this morning I took her to have this done at a pathology but the nurse could not get blood to come out eventhough she tried many places. She thus sent us to another branch in their group and they had similar trouble there also and she had to put her hands in warm water for awhile therefore blood could be drawn out with a seringe from a place in her hand. We thought we had achieved the task and came home but the (second) pathology just phoned us and said that the blood they took had colagulated and wants us to go back again tomorrow therefore. Is this normal when on lyrica? Does Lyrica thicken the blood? What can we do until we see the doctor after a successful test? (if one is possible) Thank You, Graeme Reid

Hello,
LYRICA doesn't thicken the blood. The lab people couldn't take the sample because of non visibility or very thinly visible veins, which happens in people who have lot of subcutaneous fat.
The blood sample coagulated because either the bottle used for collecting the sample didn't have...

I'd like to know why I have such nasty side effects from a generic Teva-pregabalin vs Lyrica? I feel pretty much normal on Lyrica and am virtually bed-ridden with the other. I have constant hallucinatory problems and severe vertigo with the generic. Am I alone in this?

hi
thanks for using healthcare magic

A generic drug is as safe, effective, and acts the same way as the brand name drug at the same dosage. But side effect depend upon the bio-availability of drug. Kind of side effect u r getting may be due to less bio availability of generic drugs as compared to...

Hello,
I started taking Lyrica 3 months ago and have noticed weight gain as others report. I have started a more healthy "clean" diet, limiting "bad carbs" and still I gain. I have started exercise as well.
Are there any suggestions to boosting weight loss while taking Lyrica that actually have been proven effective? I am on 75 mg twice daily and generic paxil 10 mg once nightly.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Weight gain is an uncommon side effect of taking lyrica (pregabalin), affecting less than 10% of people taking this drug.

You may be pleased to note than only 0.3% of patients taking lyrica decide to discontinue the drug on account of weight gain.

Lyrica as...

I have been having lower outer leg pain for at least a month. My doctor thinks that I may have a pinched nerve and suggested that I take 1- 50mg Lyrica, once a day (evening) to see if this would help. If pain continues after starting this pill, he would then suggest xrays..I am a little concerned about the possible side effects. I do not take any other medications other than +50 vitamin, calcium, and PreserVision, and eyedrops for Glaucoma. Am I right to be concerned about starting the Lyrica?

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

I think lyrica (pregabalin) is totally safe except of course you present with side effects (just like in any other medication). Lyrica does not have any interactions with the other medications you mentioned.
The side effects that you can encounter while taking...

Hello there, my name is Merdy i hope you can preview my history, please tell me if you cant see it.
Does Lyrica really cause weigh gain ?, or is it the patients poor condition that continues to add weight i.e., depression on top of chronic pain, immobility, loss of livelihood, loss of relationships, on top of more depression and anxiety .

I stated Lyrica last night,300mg, it has almost removed my chronic pain and now i am able to walk. The acute spinal cord compression pain is still there. But i have gained 50kg in six months after a bad accident and serious complications ( also on corticosteriods ). I was normally skinny at 50 kg I can barely move on 2 crutches. just a bit worried that Lyrica will stack on the weight and il end up at 200kg in 2 years time.
I walk for half an hour a day and do small weights in a pathetic way.
Thank you , any other advise for taking Lyrica would be appreciated.

I have reduced my Norspan from 20mg plus 10 mg per week and Lyrica 600 mg daily to try to combat a feeling of constant tiredness, but to no effect. I am taking these drugs because of a diagnosis many years ago of CFS & Fibrimyalgia, not exacerbated by Spinal Stenosis an d collapsing Disks. A surgeon opperated on L#-$-% clamping rods to these vertebrae, but the pain has only become worse. I have CAD CABGs in 1981, 1997 & a Stent in 2006. I have some lung problems as well as complex Apneas. I have Atrial Fibrilation with my puilse rate jumping anywhere from 200 to 30 bpm. IO now have a pacemaker inserted to keep my lower level at about 70. I will bne 80 on Dec. 7 My Total Cholesterol is around 5.0 or lower (Au). I have Type II Diabetes.
