I had a HIDA scan done yesterday and realized today that I may be pregnant. (my cycle that is always early by 3-7 days should have started 3-7 days ago still has not started as of today) if I am pregnant how much damage have I done to the fetus? I have also taken prescription lortab within the last 2 weeks what problems could result from that?

doctor1 MD

Hello
Thanks for your query.
Firstly, I would confirm the pregnancy before wondering about the ill effects of the two things.
Regarding the HIDA scan, a single procedure would not affect the fetus.

I take about 30mg of Lortab daily for osteoarthritis pain. I know it causes constipation , but I have been able to control that with proper diet. For the past few days, I have an urge for a bm, but all I pass is gas and yellowish mucus , sometimes with a small amount of stool . Yesterday I was going ab out 10 times. There is also cramping pain. Today I only went once and nothing else. I am trying to increase my water intake and make sure I get enough fiber . What is my problem, and how can I control it?

doctor1 MD

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

Passing of only gas and yellowish mucus and no stool means constipation only, and you rightly said it is the side effect of Lortab only. So if feasible take an alternative analgesic like combination of tramadol and...

Good Evening Dr. Grief. I have had a severe case of Shingles in my eye for the last several weeks. My Primary Care Physician has been prescribing 7.25/325 lortab for pain and gabaptentin for the nerve pain. The gabapentin knocks me out. I feel like a zombie after I take it. The only thing that brings me any relief is the Lortab. I am prescribed up to 4 pills daily as needed. The symptoms of the shingles have pretty much gone away. However, I think I have developed Postherpetic neuralgia. The pain is really intense. Shingles runs in my family it seems. My Aunt is on Fentanyl patches for her outbreaks. I feel guilty asking for a high dosage of the Lortab. That is the only thing that seems to keep the pain at bay. What do you think? Thanks for your opinion. Have a great night.

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having severe shingles. Shingles is because of reactivation of chicken pox and is called as herpes zoster ophthalmicus. The treatment in the acute phase is by using antivrals and antiinflammatory drugs.
Post herptic neuralgia is a common complication...

i have severe GERD, and had the wrap surgery years ago. now had surgery for broken elbow and LCL repair. doctor prescribed lortab for pain during PT but i cant stop throwing up and/or dry heaving on it, even with anti-nausea meds. same thing happens with Tylenol III. Will Demerol likly cause the same amount of nausea?

doctor1 MD

Narcotic analgesics(lortab,Demerol) usually cause nausea and should be avoided. NSAIDs and Tylenol if taken after meals may be tolerated, the use of antiemetics(onandesteron) and antacids will help prevent the dry heaves and nausea, addition of sucralfate syrup may help in the GERD and gastitis.

I fell on the basketball court yesterday, and hit the bone just below the knee cap. Swelled like a softball. I can walk with limited pain, but when I lie down I get an awful burning sensation, as if I am being cut with a hot razor blade. Taking ibuprofen and lortab prescribed by urgent care.

doctor1 MD

hi there
what happens is that the bone is covered by thick membrane - periosteum
assuming that you dont have a fracture,
blood can collect between the bone and periosteum
it causes your features of swelling and pain
it resolves gradually
so u need not worry

but do rule out a fracture with a xray...

doctor1 MD

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

This is to just to let you know that Lortab causes more nausea than Ibuprofen.

* Protection in the form of a splint or cast boot
* Avoid bearing weight on the injured leg and give adequate rest
* Ice...

I recently have had some severe back pain, taking 1/2 to 1 lortab a day with 1 soma at night so I can sleep. Naproxin during the day. My upper belly is distended but not painful. I have taken laxatives for 5 days in a row with no relief. I drink nothing but water with limes and oranges in the water, 6-8 24 oz glasses a day. Bran for breakfast, I may have a small bowel movement but not anything like I should. Any suggestions?

doctor1 MD

Hi...you are not passing out anything because you are not taking in anything solid...eat a normal diet...also add a ppi with levosulpride combination in morning to your drug list...eat more of fibers...

i have extreme pain on my right side where my ovary used to be, but had a partial hysterectomy , took everything but my cervix , and removed a 30 pound granulosa cell malignant tumor that was encased in my left ovary. i am in extreme pain and have been to the er and they say it could probably be lesions from my surgery. what are those and what can be done to fix them? im on lortab and they gave me shots of morphine yesterday at er, but it didnt touch the pain. i cannot even walk upright.

doctor1 MD

Thanks for posting your query.

From the information you have provided,

I understand that both your ovaries and major portion of the uterus except cervix has been removed as a treatment for ovarian tumour. I am not sure why the cervix was left behind as we usually remove the uterus & both ovaries...

Excruciating pain in cheek (or my son calls it a sore on the inside of his upper cheek close to the gums) 4th tooth from the front (upper) extracted yesterday and he is having sharp pain in the area. Tooth seems fine, no pain there. Saw dentist today who took another xray and said there was no root left, so pain should be ok. Was given amox as a precaution and lortab for pain management. Just worried because the pain seems so severe and its not evenin the tooth or gum area. What are your thoughts?

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain and swelling are common complications after tooth extraction. As you mentioned that there is no root piece left so there is no need to worry. Just follow the post extraction instructions given by the Dentist properly.
Take the complete course of antibiotics...

3 weeks ago, I went to the Dr with lower back pain on both sides. (I had a kidney stone in 2003, found prior to passing.) Pain was on both sides, so Dr didn't think it was stones, but urine showed slight infection. I do not have the common burning or frequent urge symptoms. I took Cipro for 10 days. 4 days after meds completed, pain is back and worse. I now have low grade fever, still "slight" infection in urine, stomach is very nauseated & constipated (not normal for me). Had x-rays of kidneys and lower back and all looks normal. I'm back on Cipro again, along with presnisone and Lortab. I don't like continuing to wait. I am 39yo female.
