Questions and answers on "Furosemide"

My dad, 90, passed on 3.15pm last Sunday in the hospital's Intermediate Care Area after being admitted late Saturday morning following paleness and abdominal discomfort ealier that morning at home. Heamoglobin level was dangerously low at 4 and blood transfusion was carried out with 40mg Furosemide initially by late evening, and subsequently Epoitine and the usual heart medications he has been on for years since heart bypass. He was previously diagnosed as having stage 4 renal impairment, suspectedly caused by Voltaren treatment following a fall in Nov 20102 which resulted in mild L2 fracture. His Creatinine level improved with Kestosterone and Epoitin (twice weekly) which was subsequently reduced to once weekly. I had stopped him from taking Furosemide, prescribed after his Edema event in March this year, because of adverse side effects and his condition improved with a diet of oats, multivatimins, kidney milk (Nepro for breakfast), fruit and vegetable juice (lunch) and soya milk (night/supper). Was death precipitated by iron insufficiency, leading to heart failure hence Edema and shutdown of kidneys after 40-80-80 doses of Furosemide did not release no more than 750ml of urine (on Saturday only)?

Hello because of the previous bypass surgery the heart was already week . Hemoglobin of 4 is severe anemia and hence it decreases the supply of oxygen making the heart pump harder ultimately causing it to decompensate and triggering an adverse cardiac event which could have led to his demise ....

doctor1 MD

Hello,

May I presume that your doctor had prescribed you Furosemide and spironolactone for a condition in which you were accumulating water in the body. It is better that you take them both together as Spironolactone prevents the loss of Potassium which Furosemide causes and there is less chance...

I take coreg and prinivil as well as sinthroid, digitek and a small dose of furosemide . I just ate a grapefruit. I have done this in the past and as far as I know did not have an interaction. However I have had a few low blood pressure readings #-esp the systolic (2nd #) recently. Should I be worried or do something to counter-act the effects of the grapefruit. I enjoy grapefruit and guess I just thought it wouldn t bother me, however with what I have been reading, when I saw some the meds I take on the list of ones that react with grapefruit. I do not remember my cardiologist make a special point of telling me to specifically not eat grapefruit.

It is the weekend and am concerned about blood pressure. Last 3 readings: 140/88, 133/106, 137/105. Also have pounding headache in back of skull and top of head like a throbbing migraine. Saw my primary in May. All blood tests and EKG normal. Was taking Lisinopril HCTZ 20/12.5. My concern was swollen ankles so Dr. switched me to Lisinopril tabs 20mg & Lasix 40mg. I have not felt well since the switch. I have been treated for HBP about 15 years, am 56 and do smoke. Last 2 days have taken Lisinopril twice a day and 1/2 Lasix. Dr. told me I could do that as long as I monitor myself. Have not had numbers in 100s for a long time. Other medications are Aciphex 20mg, trazodone 100mg, sertraline 150mg and the lisinopril 20mg & lasix. I just do not feel well and need some advice. I will call my dr. on Monday to discuss. Thank you.
