My son is currently taking Fioricet for migraines that he has frequently - literally on a daily basis. Neurologist currently has him on Divalproex SOD DR 250 MG.
Fioricet only relieves his headaches about 50% - Pharmacist recommended Advil Migraine and for him to take 4 capsules every 8 hours or to try and take Aleve. - Advil bottle says to take only 2 capsules every day.
Q is - Can he safely take 4 capsules every 8 hours?

doctor1 MD

Hi,

If the dose of 1 capsule of Advil Migraine is 200 mg of Ibuprofen, then, can safely take 4 capsules every 8 hours as it will be a total of 800 mg per day.

If the dose is 400 mg, then should take 2 capsules per day, making a total of 800 mg per day.

I'd suggest not to take Fioricet if you take...

My wife has extremely impacted sinus's and was prescribed Fioricet. It is not helping her at all. Would it hurt if she took Hydroxyzine 50 mg 3 hours after? Or could she take some cough medicine with hydrocodone? She took the Fioricet about 3 to 4 hours ago. I am not paying nothing for a simple question.

doctor1 MD

Fioricet is a potent analgesic. So it is not a definitive treatment for sinusitis. Hydroxyzine is an anti-allergic and if your wife is having a bout of sneezing, running nose, irritative cough etc then it may help. Cough medicine with hydrocodone is an analgesic and cough suppressant which may...

I really appreciate your concern looking to the history given here I could say that without the clinical sign and symptoms get done the test of any kind does not prove any thing and this would be useless, so just forget about the test that you did, hope this information...

i find that i have to take a couple (2 usually sometimes 3) of tabs of fioricet a month for my headaches. it is the only drug that helps them go away. i'm not a candidate for addiction nor overdose of the medicine. my question regards a possible restriction by the fda on the pill because of the tylenal side effects problem. i don't believe that fioricet has a large enough portion of tylenal to be a problem with this. i actually take the generic form but am unsure of the placement of the 'u' and the 'i'. :) i am a 70 year old man and am on hydrochloralthyazide, lisinipril, allopurinol and coumadin

I had an MRI which showed stable microvascular ischemia white matter changes without demylinization. I am a 34 year old, 284 lb woman with a hx of migraines with aura. The MRI was done because the aura prior to a migraine changed from the electrical current type to seeing tracers. For the past few months I have had chronic headaches, not just the hormonal migraines I typically see. I take Fioricet for my headaches because nothing else has seemed to work. I do not have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues despite being morbidly obese. I do not have pre-diabetes or other blood sugar issues. My mother has a hx of TIA s, diagnosed when she was 40. I am still waiting for a neuro appt because the neurologist wants to review all of my medical files before setting the appointment. 1. How does the radiologist know the changes are stable when I have never had these show up on an MRI before? 2. Could this be migraine related as opposed to TIA s? 3. What can I do to prevent the changes from becoming chronic?

I have bilateral neuropathy. I have several other conditions, one of which I take gabapentin for. My neurologist recently prescribed tramadol to compliment the gabapentin for dealing with the nerve pain. Despite the fact that I found the tramadol to be effective in reducing the progressive nerve pain, I had to stop due to an adverse reaction. Today my neurologist called in a Rx for fioricet to try instead. I do not suffer from migraines. I cannot find any info online about taking fioricet for neuropathy. Any thoughts on why/how thiscdrug would be effective for dealing with nerve pain in my legs?? Thank you in advance for your time and expertise,Chronic nerve pain sufferer

I have been seeing a pain management specialist for a little more than 3 years. My treatment is OxyContin 20mg every 8 hours , Percocet 10mg every 12 hours ( for break through pain) & tizanidine every 8-12 hours for non retractable chronic neck & back pain. I also take keppra, fioricet + codeine 50/325/40/30w. DHE injections & Botox therapy for chronic migraines. I have always passed my urine test. I was unable to urinate at my last doctor visit & was given a saliva test instead. I failed this test. My doctor has dismissed me as a patient but will not tell me why I failed. I take ibuprofen daily. I have read that ibuprofen can cause a false positive in saliva tests. Is this true & what are my options? Thank you.
