Diazepam

What is Diazepam?

Diazepam is an anxiolytic drug. In lower dose it works as an anxiolytic. In a little higher dose it can be used safely for whom there is a sleep disturbance. It can be used in status epilepticus also. Comparatively a safe drug.

Questions and answers on "Diazepam"

my question is about the administration of the drug diazepam. The first part is would a injection of diazepam be an appropriate diagnosis for a pinched nerve( a disk in the back was pinching the nerve and the drug was administed as a skeletory muscle relaxer) in a 30-39 year old white male even through the fda has warned about the high suicide attempt rate that this group has associated with diazepam or would you have tried a different method/drug first. The second part is would you prescribe diazepam with codiene even through the fda has warned about the multiplier effect that diazepam has on opiates. Thank you for your time.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Diazepam would not be prescribed solely because of a pinched nerve. Ask the doctor the reasons for this. Your pain may be interfering with your sleep patter. Though the FDA has warned, they are cautioning but a doctor who takes this into account and thinks the benefits outweigh the risk is...

My doctor has prescribed lorazopam for the last 7 months 1mg per day. I am very concerned to get off it. The doctor has said I now need to make the switch to diazepam. She has prescribed 4 weeks worth as she says that this is addictive as well. Is it safe to come off the lorazopam that quickly and also to stop the lorazapam straightaway and switch to diazapam? I am aged 52 ,weigh 121/2 stone, height 5' 9" and no previous health problems. What should I be doing?

doctor1 MD

Hello and thanks for the query.

Your question is a good one and I will try to provide good information and recommendations for you.

In your situation it should be safe to transition to Diazepam from lorazepam as your doctor has suggested. These drugs, while different, act via a similar mechanism....

I was addicted to diazepam for quite a long time. Then, for about 2 years, I took a maintenance dose
of 4mg. Over about 5 weeks I reduced this, 1mg at a time, to zero. I took no diazepam for about 3
weeks. Since then (Sept 2011) I have been experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms - appropriate,
it seems to me, to stopping a much higher dose than I did. What is the reason for this?. The symptoms are so debilitating my life is virtually over. I have as much time & money as may help
you deal with my question.

Hey, I have been prescribed diazepam and an anti drepressent by my doctor (this was a few weeks ago) the medication is to calm me whilst I wait to start counselling for intrusive thoughts/OCD. I think the last time I took the diasepan was Friday I was taking 1-2 for just over a week maybe a bit more. I'm meant to be going out for Girlfreinds birthday this Saturday, would it be ok to drink alcohol if I don't take any more diazepam and I'm on one anti depressant a day (20mg of Citalopram) I'm not going to go crazy but I would like to let my hair down and have some drinks and a few shots just to have a little bit of normality for a while ?

doctor1 MD

Hello....
Thanks for your query. I understand the emotional turmoil you are undergoing in the form of depressive disorder. I would suggest you to avoid alcohol use since though it appears to temporarily calm you down, it can induce anxiety as well as depressive symptoms.
You can continue taking...

Whenever I do smoke meth (which is 10x/month MAX), I like to take 5 mg of Diazepam, wait til it kicks in a little, and then smoke some weed. Every now and then, I'll have a beer or a couple shots to take the edge off the comedown as well before I take the Diazepam.

However, every now and then, I get a pretty bad tension headache as a result of the comedown. I usually always drink plenty of water, make sure I eat something (even if it's just milk), and I'll take a 5 mg Diazepam. If the headache doesn't go away, I might either take the other 5mg Diazepam, and/or an Aleve. One time, my back was aching so bad I took a 5mg of Baclofen. And in between I'll be smoking weed. Sometimes the headache just lingers though and that is what keeps me awake all night.

My question though is, I do my best to research mixing of different drugs and I have a general idea of what is ok to take with what. Plus, I always try to keep it in low dosages. 5mg-10mg at most, and I don't take them together at the same time. I just wanted to clarify whether all these things are ok to take after smoking crystal meth.

doctor1 MD

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. However, it is not at all okay to take any of the substances your mention, meth, diazepam, baclofen or marijuana to help with any issues that you may be having. I believe that you have a problem with dependence on one or more of these substances. You will...

I also took one 5mg diazepam during my third week of pregnancy before I know I was pregnant. I am worried sick that I exposed my child to this drug at a critical stage of their development. Will my baby be okay (no malformations, or mental disorders) because I only took one pill? Is there a test I can take to test for malformations from diazepam?

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thanks for writing..
Any medication taken before 4 weeks has all or none rule. It means it might cause abortion or result in normal baby. Only between 5-12 weeks congenital malformation. Main adverse effect of diazepam include floppy baby syndrome due to improper development of muscles. This...

Hi I am 47 years old female . I usually wake up in middle of night with palpitation and then just armpit sweating. My hormone levels are normal . This happens mostly 10 days before starting period but I do sometime have other times than premenstural too. I take 20 mg propranolol BD and just 1 mg Diazepam before bed. It is like a waking up by a shock and very scary. My heart was checked and it is normal. My gynecologist prescribed low dose of estrogen but I haven t used it yet. Is these sign of premenopausal ?

I recently went on holiday to Turkey and had a bout of insomnia while I was there. I called for a doctor from the hotel reception and they called one for me. He came and gave me a diazepam injection . It worked fine but the next moment I had suspicions he used a dirty needle as they are common practice in Turkey. The following week, I felt fatigue , dizziness, headaches and feeling of unbalance. Not to mention a mouth ulcer or 2. Is it possible that this doctor used an unsafe needle and injected me with a virus or disease of some sort? If this is unlikely, what could it be?
