I have been diagnosed with UTI i have done my Ultra sound,Urine Culture and Uro flow. My ultra sound report show my Prostate size is 19 grm and post void insignificant at 22cc. my urine culture shows Pus cells 4-5/hpf and epithelial cell 2-3 rest is all ok and sterile. my Uroflow shows 12 ml flow rate. Hence my doctor said that the uroflow is less and he have prescribed me with trimethoprim 200 mg twice for 10 days and alfuzosin once for 10 days for uroflow. Now i take Betanicardia for Blood Pressure hence does it will interact with alfuzosin. I have taken 3 dose of the same but i feel cramps or pain in my bladder area so should i continue to take alfuzosin. I do not have any problem taking trimethoprim 200 mg. I would like to know should i continue take alfuzosin as i take Betanicardia for blood pressure.

I am presently taking Alfuzosin 10mg for BPH relief. I had been taken Temsunol D, but it gave me dry ejaculations, and poor sexual drive.
I am also taking Cialis 20 a few hours before sex (once per week) for an ED problem.
Question......I have read that alpha blockers like Alfuzosin or Temsunol could have bad interaction with erectile dysfunction-ED drugs such as sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil. Should I be worried about that?
Is it safe for me to take an ED drug once per week if I am on an alpha blocker for my BPH problem?

I am also on Benicar 20 for high blood pressure.

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
yes possible interaction but you can take

Hello Dr Varshney,
Thanks for your e-mail. My doctor has changed Flomax to alfuzosin to avoid sexual side effects. The medicine you suggested instead of Proscar - My doctor says that has similar effects like Proscar which did not suit me. Cialis I am only taking as needed for sex. I am also taking saw palmetto and beta sitio sterol daily - I understand they can stop the growth of Prostate. Right now - things are ok. Any thoughts will be welcome.

Hello Dr Varshney, I am following up on previous questions related to BPH. For three weeks I was only taking alfuzosin and herbal( saw palmetto etc). Today my Dht came 26 ng/dL ( reference range 16 to 79). Is this DHT level low enough to stop prostate growth or shrink it. Does it mean herbal stuff is good enough? Today with alfuzosin, I have started Avodart 0.5 mg - can I take avodart every other day to reduce side effects I had with proscar? Thanks. XXXX

DHt is effected by Proscar

Prostavar is naturals for bph abd has saw palmetto etc. I am ok with my urination. I tried to stop alfuzosin but that did not work. Yet I am concerned about having to keep taking alfuzosin indefinitely. What are my options. Should I try alfuzosin 5 mg daily? Does taking alfuzosin for 5 years create serious side effects? Thanks.

I'm having an issue with kidney stones, and related UTI. Doctor has prescribed 500mg levofloxacin tablet, 10mg Alfuzosin tablet, Pantoprazole + Domperidone tablet, and Magnesium + Potassium Citrate syrup. Unfortunately, I did not pay close attention to how the medicines should be taken.

I believe the levofloxacin is once daily for 5 days - should that be before food or after food and can it be taken anytime of the day? Similarly for Alfuzosin and the Pantoprazole + Domperidone tablet? The syrup was supposed to be twice daily, morning and night. Does it matter if its before of after food?

Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

If you are not getting sufficient relief with Alfuzosin tablet, surgery is required.

Laser based surgery have some advantages over conventional Trans urethral prostatic resection (TURP).

In laser based surgery, there is no blood loss. It requires shorter stay in hospital.

It...

I was given alfuzosin for problems with enlarged prostate. Upon taking the med, I began to experience what I thought might be flu like symptoms and went to me primary care doctor and was given and antibiotic; which I took all of and did not get any relief. I have Myasthenia Gravis and selecting an antibiotic is not so easy, but upon a second trip to my primary doctor, I was given another Rx, took all of it but seems to not get any better. At that point, I looked at possible side effects related to taking alfuzosin and found things like fever, sore throat, ear ache, pain in my chest and stopped the alfuzosin. My symptoms improved. Since I could not contact my urologist over the holiday weekend, does this sound like a reasonable course of action on my part?

I do take about 2.5 to 3 litres water or so thru the day. I was prescribed alfuzosin 10 mg once after dinner since last one and half year when prostate was 34 gms andPSA was .45. I am now being advised alfizin D (instead of alfuzin) which i am taking for last about 15 days. Pls advise since i do not want invasive surgery if at all needed. Is there any non invasive treatment ?
