Type 1 hypersensitivity

Questions and answers on "Type 1 hypersensitivity"

My son was stung in the leg by a wasp in 2007. That same year he developed year round allergies and asthma. About a year later, he has experienced numbness in that same leg which seems to occur frequently. The sting did have an allergic reaction, as a large purplelish area developed on that leg after the sting. I took him to a doctor and he gave him antibiotics. Could his allergies/asthma, and leg numbness be related to the wasp sting? If so, what can be done to alleviate this. (He's on allergy meds, over the counter & prescription, but it doesn't work. He suffers from mucus flareups that prevent him from sleeping. Some nights he has an all-nighter and he has to nap during the day. He really doesn't have much of a life as he cannot enjoy anything due to chronic allergies and sleeplessness. What can we do? Please help.

My 15 yr old grandson had an allergic reaction to shrimp. He broke out in hives all over and his face and swelled, but not his throat. He was calm and could easily talk. I gave him 1 benadryl, and the swelling went down by about 2/3. His face and hands are still puffy. He is suppose to fly from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX in 4 hours. Its a 9 hour flight. Is it safe to send him? Is there a chance this will flair up until the shrimp leaves his system?

I had Dengue Fever over a year ago. Since then I've been susceptible to breaking out into hives. I got three bee stings in April and had hives for a few weeks after. I was exposed to a possible spider bite or other insect a few weeks ago and I keep breaking out into hives almost daily. i've been taking an anti-histamine to keep them at bay. I'm 44 female and in great shape beside this reoccurring condition. I've always been very allergic to honey bee stings. I've been exposed to poisonous jelly fish on many occasions and when I was a baby something bit me and caused most of my body to have an allergic reaction.

Hi,
My 10.5 month old baby had an allergic reaction to egg on 13th September. His ears swelled up and were extremely red and he developed a rash on his body. He was rushed to hospital and given piriton. After he was given medication he vomitted and also had diarohhea.
On 18th September (5 days later) he woke up with what looked like a bruise on his ear. This then appeared on the other side but only a very small amount. His ear was swollen and are purplish / blueish in colour.
Are the 2 linked and what can it be?

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
The present stage is just a normal progression of the previous one.

Detailed Answer:

Thanks. I was in Las vegas last week, and used my friend's suntan lotion. I think it was old. It felt weird. I ended up with a bumpy red rash on my face which has gone away, but now it has spread to my arms and legs. Very itchy, almosy painful. I tried Benadryl, Allegra, Lanacain, and even calamide lotion. Nothing works. It continues to flare up..

Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for your query.

As you have definite history of hypersensitivity (Hay Fever). It is possible that this also due to hypersensitivity reaction.

In such cases anti-histaminics, anti-allergic may not help. You need to suppress the overall hypersensitivity in your body. This can be...

my doctor told me that my itchy hand was caused by my sinus infection, is this true

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thanks for the query

Sinusitis by itself will not cause itching of the hands, but with the hay fever it can happen. With this brief history, it is difficult to analyze what exactly you are going through. If you can furnish more details regarding this, it would be helpful in arriving at a...

Hi-thanks for your help. I have noticed many brown and black spots suddenly appear all over my body. There are not many but they are apread out. Some are only dots, others bigger.

doctor1 MD

Hello.

Thanks for your query.

The brown and black spots that appear on your body if they are uniformly spread out and gradually disappear after some time then they are more likely to be caused by allergy from some food or fabric or environment.

To get rid of this problem, whenever the spots start...

I am a 40 year old female. I weight about 184 and am 5 feet. Recently I kept getting a cluster of little red itchy bumps behind my ear. They went away in about 3 days and then I got a patch of raised itchy skin colored bumps along my jawline that stayed for a week. I kept applying hydrocortisone and they finally went away but a few a still there. Prior to this I got another itchy patch of skin colored bumps on my left cheek that went away after a week but left weird scars that were larger than the bumps itself. I need help. What could this be? Should I see an allergist or general doctor?
I don't know if this is related but the bottom of my feet have been itching too,

doctor1 MD

I have shiitake mushroom rash. I recently ingested some of the mushrooms at a restaurant. I began itching the following day. Each day the rash gets angrier and more intense. I have a scratch like rash all over my body. Huge raised long scratch looking marks. I have had the symptoms for nearly two weeks. I take allergy medication which takes the edge off, but does seem to completely get rid of the symptoms. I have teribble outbreaks and i do not know what iginites them. Once they start, they are there for hours and I itch the whole day. Starts on back of hands, feet, then scalp, then neck, and then all over my back. Is there some sort of detox that I can do to get this out of my system? Anything make it go away? I have no other allergies. I am not on any medications
