Hello,

I have a complicated question. I need to give a little bit of history before I ask. I was diagnosed with a coarctation of the aorta at the age of 23 because I have been having symptoms of dizziness and syncope since about the age of 10. I had a cardiac cath with stent placement 2 years ago to repair the coarc. After the surgery, I was still having symptoms of dizziness and syncope. My cardiologist tried me on multiple medications including atenelol, nadalol, mididrine, and fludrocortisone. None of which worked. So I was sent to a neurologist. They found a cyst on my pituitary gland an pineal gland but I have been cleared by the neurosurgeon and endocrinologist as all my labs are fine and this shouldn't be causing any issues. They also found that I have about 50-60% stenosis of my left internal carotid artery. I was seen and cleared by a neuro-optomologist, and ENT. So I had an angiogram done about 2 months ago and the doctors were planning on placing a stent in my carotid because I was developing symptoms of amarosis fugax and thought this could be whats causing my dizziness and syncope episodes. When the angiogram was performed the surgeon said that the blood flow to my brain was great and he did not want to put a stent in because of this. Now I'm at a loss and dont know what else to do. What could be causing me to be dizzy and pass out all the time.

doctor1 MD

HI
Well come to HCM
The cause of syncope or dizziness yet to be found out, coarctation is not the disease, and stenting is not done for this, history of stenting is there but for what it was done not mentioned, in my opinion the over all condition may be related with some functional elements and...

one month ago i had a stomach virus. i felt gassy and stomach ache. i did not drink anything all day and it was very hot and i worked outside for 6 hours latter on i felt dizzy and had a syncope for about 20 sec. i went to the er where they didi blood work and also ecg over a 9 hour period my troponin levels went up in the second blood test but in the third blood test they went back to normal, did i have a heart attack. all 3 ecgs were normal.

doctor1 MD

Hi, I understand your concern and I'll try to help you. Troponin is a marker of heart muscle called myocardium injury. The elevation of troponin in the blood suggests that there was some injury to the myocardium of your heart.

There are several causes for these injuries from inflammation due to...

I am a 58 year old gentlemen. I recently suffered from an intense feeling of nausea followed by a fainting episode. I did not vomit. I felt flushed prior to the nausea. My bloodpressure was taken straight after the episode and was not recorded as extremely high or low. What could be the cause? I am not a smoker and I am a social drinker (not to excess). I do not take recreational drugs and am currently not on any prescribed medication. I exercise regularly and am not over weight. I am not stressed or anxious.

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

The symptoms you are experiencing of nausea followed by fainting episode is most probably due to Syncope.

Syncope may be associated with a sudden fall in blood pressure, a decrease in heart rate or changes in blood volume or distribution.

The different types of syncope...

Hi , I am having a strange condition. I become unconscious after taking injections. This is happening right from my childhood. I got my EEG done just to make sure it's not epilepsy. can someone guide me through this, as to what is happening. I have consulted many doctors nobody knows whats happening. I am in a case where in I cant take injections entire life. I think I am ok if blood is drawn into me, but if any injection put inside me results in me becoming unconscious after getting out of the bed and I stand vertical. I mean if am on bed for 10 mins nothing will happen but only after I get up, I go down unconscious flinching my palms and lips tight.

doctor1 MD

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query. I am happy to address your questions. It is what one calls in medically term as "Syncope" which is the abrupt and transient loss of consciousness (with the needle injury predisposing the brain of blood loss), associated with absence of postural tone,...

Hi. I have been diagnosed with syncope just a couple of weeks ago. I am wondering why this suddenly came at age 43. I am extremely healthy but suddently started having presyncope symptoms and failed my tilt table test . My doctor put me on Florinef. I have noticed that my bowel movements have been green lately as well and now I am wondering if I could have some sort of virus that is causing both issues. I have no appeitite and after taking two bites of food, I feel full. Please advise.

Hi, I am a 20 year old mother of 2 children. ( 2 yr old and a 3 month old). I work full time as a Medical Assistant and a manager at Burger King. During my recent pregnancy I was experiencing episodes of dizziness and passing out. So I had to stop driving. It was discovered that may have a congenital cardiac abnormality. Recently a Cardiac Specialist performed a TEE procedure. Here are the results ( as written in my medical chart) It was discovered I have a large 5mm-7mm Patent Foremen Ovale or small ASD equivalent PFO with bidirectional shunt (positive contrast study for R-L shunt and left to right shunt on color Doppler). Normal LV wall thickness and cavity size with normal LV systolic function. No regional wall motion abnormality. RV size and systolic function appear normal. Consider Device closure of PFO since patient has recurrent TIA-like symptoms or syncpal episodes. My cardiologist advises against the surgery even though he sent me to see a top cardiac surgeon for further work up and to confirm the diagnosis. The surgeon feels the surgery should be performed while I am still young to prevent complications in the future and because I have been symptomatic with episodes of TIA and Syncope. I am not sure whose advice to follow. Please share with me the risks and benefits of this surgery. I need your help and professional advice.
