Spinal disc herniation
What is Spinal disc herniation?
It is a medical condition affecting the spine in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring (annulus fibrosus) of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion (nucleus pulposus) to bulge out beyond the damaged outer rings. It is usually due to age related degeneration of the annulus fibrosus, but may also be caused by trauma, lifting injuries. Initially conservative treatment is adviced.
