Solitary pulmonary nodule

What is Solitary pulmonary nodule?

This is a lesion in the lung. It is no more than 3 cm and is well defined, opaque appearnace and is solid rather than fluid filled. It is within the lung tissue or parenchyma. Often benign, but cancer should be ruled out. It could indicate early stage cancer and lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the USA. The term, mass in the lung, is considered if the area is over 3 cm.
