Partial seizure

What is Partial seizure?

In partial seizures the electrical disturbance is limited to a specific area of one cerebral hemisphere (side of the brain). Partial seizures are subdivided into simple partial seizures (in which consciousness or awareness is retained) and complex partial seizures (in which consciousness is impaired or lost). Partial seizures may spread or progress to a generalized tonic-clonic seizure, in which case the classification category is partial seizures secondarily generalized.

This is in regards to my child whom you answered who has a brain lesion and tics. My daughter will start twitching--her eyes widen and blink, her whole body twitches. She gets so mad about it that she will start crying. When I ask if she can control it she says that she knows it's happening but it feels like she has to do it. She says she is doing it, but can't stop it. I can't tell if it's something she is in control of. Her doctors say it's partial seizures but I am not convinced. Last night we gave her a sedatve the doctor gave to stop seizures. She was loopy, hardly able to walk, but still had the tics. Only when she fell asleep did they stop. When she woke up they were mostly gone, would come rarely in the hour. What do you think these are? I know you specialize in movement disorders. I don't think these are seizures. Do you think they may be from the brain lesion?

Hello,
I'm diagnosed with tegritol cr 200 as I suffer from partial seizure attacks. My dosage is 3x200 mg/ day.I have been on medication for the last 5and a half years.
I wanted to ask that if I consumed MDMA with regular course of medicine, what reactions and health implications could be possible.
Is it safe to use both drugs .??

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is good possibility that use of MDMA can cause recurrent seizures and it should be avoided at all cost.

Hope I have answered your query.

sir, my daughter aged 17 yrs taking encorate chrono 300 twice a day after meals as advised as she was treated for one episode of partial seizure . now she is ok and no problem at all. eventhough doctor advised continue the medicine for life long. My question is is there any side effect cuasing liver damage for life long intake of medicine. she will develope any other problem in future

doctor1 MD

Thanks for using healthcaremagic. Encorate chrono is not good for females of reproductive age. This can cause lot of side effects like fertility problems, weight gain, poly cystic ovary. Better to switch to diff medicine if it was a partial seizure. Consult good neurologist for doing this. Bye.

My son is having simple partial seizure in which the leg turns numb or is like a cramp were the leg stiffens. it lasts for only a few seconds(as reported in video EEG ). He had a full seizure 3 yrs back & the doctor prescribed Tegrital 200 twice a day. He has not had a seizure since then but the leg cramps are frequent. Then the doctor prescribed him Frisium 5 once a day & now has added eptoin 50 twice a day since the leg cramps are occuring say once a week or in 10 dys. please suggest

doctor1 MD

Thank you for contacting Healthcare Magic.
Tegrital is a good drug for controlling simple partial seizure. However, if they are not well controlled with adequate doses of tegrital, the good medicines to add would be Keppra (levetiracetam) or sodium valproate. Adding Frisum is good. However,...
