I am 5'3 I weight 137 and I am female. I am single. I have not had sex from 2001 until 2007. From 2007 I had sex with the same man only 4 times. We used a condom but it broke. I didn't have sex until 2010 with another man, we had sex 4 times and the condom broke twice. I now have Keratosis Pilaris and a slight case of folliculitis and have developed sebacious gland cysts on my face but noone can see all this except me. I have gained 25 lbs in the past 5 years and I am 54. Is it likely that I would be having these conditions from hiv. I haven't been tested. However I can't imagine that I would be gaining weight and I am also healthier than I was years ago. Although I do worry. If I got hiv over 10 years ago I think I would not be healthier and I would not be gaining weight. Although if I just developed hiv since 2008 or 2010 would I be gaining weight and healthy and be getting these skin conditions. I am confused and also too scared to get tested. What do you think, besides telling me to get tested.

Hello,

Thanks for the query.

Considering your present condition/symptoms, there is nothing suggestive of HIV/AIDS.

The symptoms to look for HIV are- weight loss, diarrhea, cough and unexplained fever and opportunistic infections. You have none.

Keratosis pilaris and sebaceous cysts have...

i have been suffering from chronic constipation , bloated stomach and always burping for 3 years from now. i just lose bowel after 2 to 3 days but im not still satisfied with the stool i release. sometimes it s long and sometimes short that makes me discomfort. Just this june i was diagnosed as HIV positive and i suspect that this long term disease that i got is ileocecal TB since it s an infection or opportunistic infection can be brought by the virus itself. I undergone colonoscopy and endoscopy 2 years ago but still the doctor couldn t find what s the cause of this chronic constipation and the like. That s why i suspect it s ileocecal TB. pls. advise me doc what to do. tnx and more power...

doctor1 MD

Hello,

There must be definite intraluminal cause for the constipation of such intensity in the majority of the cases.

As there is colonoscopy done before 2 years, it is strongly recommended to undertake primarily CT abdomen & pelvis and depending upon further need, fresh colonoscopy.

Hope I have...

hey I am 44 hiv+ male for 20 years and am quite healthy for the most part. Cd4 is 750 vl is undetectable as of 3 months ago. I've never had an opportunistic infection or any sickness related to the hiv. About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease. I was prescribed 3, 7.5 hydrocodone per day and for the first three years it was fine. Then I had surgery to fix one of three disks. So two remain. Pain was much relieved but drug use escalated for about 2 years. I then decided to quit and tried for a year unsuccessfully. Went to rehab and am now one year clean of opiates. I take virimune, truvada, ibuprofen(1600mg/day), and ZOLOFT(50mg/day). Ibuprofen is not cutting it for back pain any longer and I want to know what my options are. Tramadol has been suggested and I've taken it before but my doc seems reluctant. Should I try to convince her to give it to me or are there better options? I see her in the morning.

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Welcome back.

Your CD4 count seems good and Viral load is well within control.
You just try Tablet Larnoxicum 8 mg once daily and Chymoral forte as better option for your back pain and least toxic. Your doctor also will accept this option.
Get well soon.

Hello,

The methotrexate and related drugs are immunosuppressants and may give opportunistic infections a chance to cause problems. mouth and gut ulcers also a frequent problem. Anemia is also found commonly.

Hi, welcome.

Unfortunately, there is little to do in severe radiation colitis. For control of side effects of radiation therapy, treatment has to be stopped. If done so, then there is high chance that cancer will increase in size.

Depending on stage of cancer and your response to therapy, we...

Hi .... I was taking keflex for cellulitis for three weeks and have had full blood count test, liver, kidney function cholesterol and glucose all came back fine, however in the lst few days of taking antibiotics I developed a candida infection on my penis and noticed different bowel movements. I fell physically good since I came off of the antibiotics a week and a half ago but my bowel movements are not a regular as before...yesterday my stool was light brown and had little dark pieces in it ( I am guessing broccoli from the night before) and today it was a brown/ red colour (I had spaghetti bolognase) is this normal or I am I paying too much attention to this considering all my blood tests came back fine?

doctor1 MD

doctor1 MD

Smoking can be an irritant to the oral environment. The simplest answer is to stop smoking and see the response of the uvula. Smoking can change your natural flora in the mouth. This can give you an opportunistic infection with an overabundance of certain bacteria. This could affect the uvula and...

my father recently had a graft put in his arm for dialysis. His arm got extremely swollen and long story short they took it down. It is still in the arm but tied. His arm has stiil been hurting and oozing yellow fluid out of his skin. A surgeon just came in and thinks it is infected and waiting on Vascular to look at it. my question is what type of infection might it be. Waiting on culture results. He recently had a stem cell transplant so I am extremely worried.
