Welcome to Healthcare Magic
Good Day
If it is a mild crack in the vertebrae or spinal bones, they usually heal with proper immobilisation of the part. Probably a brace. If the crack is large the Doctors would have operated long ago. You may wait for 6-8 weeks for healing but do as your...

I hurt my arm more than two months ago. There was no injury that occurred, but something changed. The
arm feels weak and I raise it above my head. The problem is in the right arm. I feel more pain in the side
of my arm and it feels warm to the touch. There is some tingling in my fingers and the back of the shoulder
as well as the front of it hurts.

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Hello and thanks for the query.
The symptoms you are mentioning gives the suspicion of nerve damages of the legs caused by long standing poorly controlled diabetes.

I fell asleep last night up on the couch with my hands crossed and my head on my hands. When I woke up this morning, the top of my left hand was numb, and my thumb and index fingers won't move and I cant lift my wrist up. I'm really scared!

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

From your history and the symptoms I am of the opinion that it is probably due to nerve injury caused mostly due to compression of nerves by the weight of the head over your hand. Without examination and few tests I cannot come to a conclusion on which nerve might have...

My name is XXXXXXX I would like to speak to a neurosurgeon regarding an accident I had last December I have already seen submitted this question and paid to speak to the specialist. Have you received my query and are you ready to chat with me now?

I have chronic fibromyalgia and multilevel disc compressions as well as tarlov cysts and meningoceles. The cysts have been there a long time and so has one of the meningoceles, but one meningocele is new and happened when I was in an assault in December 2012. I was hit with a bat on my rear, behind my knee, on the outside of my knee and outside of my ankle, I laid unconscious in my house for3 or 4ndays before my husband found me. I still have visible scars at each place. I contracted rrhabdomyelytis and ARF and awoke with a paralyzed foot and most of the lateral leg numb. I went to XXXXXXX and they did an MRN and found a lesion at the ischeal tuberosity. My surgeon up there (400 miles fdom my house) is going to explore the lesion as well as do a peroneal decompression at the lateral knee. The worst pain I'm having is from slightly above my ankle throughout my whole foot ex ept for some sensation in the medial ankle and foot. I have about 4 positive tinels from the lesion down and there is still visible scarring on my hip/glute level as well as the lateral aspects of my thigh (actually thigh is more posterior) but the knee and ankle hurt and numb laterally all the way down. I cannot bear weight at all. I can't control the leg. I can't flex or dorsiflex the foot but I can move it side to side although it is very painful. The foot instantly turns purple and gives me excruciating pain as soon as I bring it below heart level. I tried shaving my leg and just touching the area slightly above my ankle all the way around forces a scream and tears and I have to fight not to pass out. I told my surgeon about these symptoms and he said he didn't want to deal with my foot until he saw how the first surgery (ischeal tuberosity and peroneal) came out but meanwhile I'm scared of what the compression may be doing to my foot and he doesn't want to give me a straight answer about it. Can you help me to understand his thinking?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us

I have studied your case.

Its almost 7 months from injury and due to your ischeal tuberosity lesion there is paraesthesia/paralysis of lower limb due to nerve injury [may be sciatic or peroneal nerve], therefore you are not able to dorsiflex or plantarflex your...

Possible nerve injury?
==========
Hello Dr,

Yesterday I had a blood draw. The phlebotomist drw blood from my Rt.Arm. She was able to acess my vein in 1 poke, She drew blood from the lateral part of my elbow. I had no pain when she drew blood. After 2 mins, when I was leaving I had a sharp pain on the inner(medial aspect) of my elbow where I was laying my elbow to rest on the draw table. I had no pain around the area where she drew blood, no hematoma. However since then I have troble flexing my arm (sharp pain) and also have a feeling of weakness in my rt. arm. However I tried lifting heavy weights with just my rt hand and able to perform all ranges of motion. I have mild(if any) numbness in some fingers. I do not have any twitching or burning pain. Is there a possibility of a nerve injury? Is there any nerve near the surface of the lateral part of arm. The blood draw needle has left a small XXXXXXX 1 cm below the lower crease XXXXXXX on the elbow on the lateral side (to help you locate the anatomy). The symptoms of pain have been on the medial side whereas the blood draw was on the lateral side.

Do I really need an EMG done? The phlebotomist was experienced and she is liscensed. I did not have a sharp pain when she accesed my vein.

Any explanation for my symptoms?

Thanks.

doctor1 MD

Hello

Thanks for the query

From the clinical details I personally feel your symptoms of pain, numbness and right arm weakness are not related to phlebotomy. Nerves of the upper limb like median, radial and the ulnar nerves pass across the elbow joint, but none near the lateral part of the...

What can cause muscles to atrophy?
Nov. 2014 left hip replacement.
March 2015 FREE FELL off of bike directly onto the operated leg incision.
When getting off the bike to stop for an intersection, I put my left leg down to hold me up. There was ZERO strength.
March 2016 had a bone scan done. Left leg continued to be weak, i.e. still cannot stand on my left leg to put on trousers or shorts without holding on to something. Radiologist report detected an infinitesimal movement of the prosthesis creating unstable body imbalance.
OTHER contributing factors. Lower back discomfort. Possible spinal column pinched nerves.
Through pt work outs I have learned that my left glute is soft and not firing. Doing dry needle therapy to get it started.
SO muscles have "possibly atrophied" I have heard mentioned twice. Once by an orthopaedic surgeon and once by a pt therapist as the source of my LEFT operated leg's weakness NOW a year and a half after the
Nov. 2014 procedure.
PLAN to DATE
Re-do the LEFT hip with a more secure prosthesis THIS July 29th. The bike FALL most likely jostled the
prosthesis. Instead of it grafting naturally with the bone it is now forming a fibrous grafting, i.e. which is unstable.
SO what is causing my left leg to remain weak? ATROPHIED muscle or something else.

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
Muscle atrophy results from not moving the muscles, or nerve injury

Detailed Answer:
Dear      Reese1403,

Thank you for trusting us at HCM with your question.

Muscle atrophy can result from not using the muscles for long durations after injuries or surgeries. This can be addressed by...

I had a blood draw one week ago. My arm was throbbing for days after words at the site. Now above the crease of my elbow I have a little lump felt under my skin and my arm feels like it is on fire. I feel pain from above the crease of my elbow down to my wrist. Is this a nerve injury or something else? I never did feel an electric shock when the blood was drawn. I had a nerve injury from a blood draw in my other arm before but this one is different. In ways it's similar but in ways it's not. Any advice?

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
Nerve conduction study needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If there is pain and arm feels like on fire, but no swelling and redness of the affected arm, most likely these symptoms are related to nerve...

Hi I had injured my right foot while playing cricket couple of months back and CT scan revealed a minor metatarsal fracture which was treated by putting on a fibreglass cast. However I was unable to walk and then my doc suspected I also had a soft tissue / nerve injury in the foot and prescribed gabapentin. After about a week of taking 100mg gabapentin twice daily, my pain has reduced substantially and I am now able to walk properly and the tingling sensation in the foot has gone. What I want to know is that does gabapentin TREAT a nerve injury or only reduce the pain till the time one is taking the medicine? Will the pain come back once I stop taking it?
