Hi, i recently found out that I had Kidney cancer and had my right kidney removed. I am a 45 years old female and don't smoke, don't drink, and I am vegan. I have always been very healthy, active and have a positive attitude. I am 5'6" and weigh 135, so I am not overweight. There is no history of kidney cancer in my family and it is not genetic. Is it possible to get kidney cancer from exposure to asbestos without having lung cancer. (or just lung problems) too?

doctor1 MD

It is unlikely that asbestos exposure is responsible for an important increase in kidney cancer risk however high asbestos exposure might entail a small increase in risk for kidney cancer.

My father was diagnosed with kidney cancer. The growth which is attached to his kidney is half the size of an apple. What I want to know is how long and how fast does kidney cancer spread to other parts of the body? He was diagnosed after having pain in lower back and stomache, no blood in urine. When they talk about stages of cancer, does that mean eventually the cancer goes through all these stages?

I had R. nephrectomy left kidney for RCC, clear cell, 7 cm, pT3aNOMO in Aug.008. PET-CT in April 009 showed two sub-cm nodules in lungs. PET-CT in Sep. 009 showed two additional nodules in lungs in addition to a slight enlargement of the largest shb-cm. nodule. Started sutent since Oct. 009. Nodules stable in CT scans including the last one in July 010. Now, my question is what should I do at this stage of the disease? I would be glad to visit the RGCI in the first week of December for the assessment of the disease and plan for future strategy on the control of this disease. Thanks. Gautam Sakya, 70 years, male
