dr.samuel,i am 6months pregnant n i have 3 fibroids one 18*13mm intramural fibroid in the posterior wall of uterus,20*18mm subserosal fibroid in fundus of uterus n another 14*9mm intramural fibroid in the anterior wall of uterus.do they harm my 6months pregnancy?

doctor1 MD

Hi,the subserosal fibroid has no effect on the pregnancy as it is outside the uterine cavity. The two intramural fibroids are also small enough not to harm the pregnancy.Usually the fibroids tend to increase in size in pregnancy. But at this size they do not harm the pregnancy.

the size is also big which need removal before infertility treatment.

this can be removed by laparoscopic surgery itself.

you can...

Hi,
If the fibroids are large and multiple surgery is the best choice.Medicines also work but most often not well enough and has side effects. Also if your symptoms are severe surgery is recommened.Only if you are peri menopausal then you can wait for some time if your symptoms are controlled...

Hi I have a 3.7cm anterior fundal uterine fibroid, the endometrial echo is slightly displaced posteriorly by the fibroid. I am 29 and have not had kids yet. Shall I and can I get pregnant with this fibroid? Does it cause complications? It grew 1cm in the past year. Shall I do surgery to remove this fibroid prior to trying for a baby (in which case I am worried about risks of the surgery leading to infertility).
Thanks!

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Anterior fundal fibroid of 3.7cm can affect the fertility to some extent.
-By obstructing the transfer of spermatozoa from uterine cavity to fallopian tubes and it can also obstruct the movement of ovum and zygote from fallopian tubes to uterus.
-It can create problem in...

Hello there,

My girlfriend has been on birth control for many years now. Gets a shot every 3-4 months. Sh ehas been having some terrible pains and a bloated belly for around 6 weeks, They put her on progesterone which is making her ill. I suggested a home pregnancy test. It came back as positive. The doctors feel it is fibroids however we just found out the pregnancy results today. Is it possible that the fibroids would cause a false positive?

doctor1 MD

Hello,
The symptoms of fibroids are very different. It can be easily diagnosed with a ultrasound. On the other hand, the pregnancy test needs to be re confirmed since she was already of depot provera shots for many years. Usually amenorrhea may occur on long term use. I suggest that she repeat the...

Hi,

Menopause is very rare at the age of 44. It is possible to get menopause early in some conditions like cervical cancer and such. But for that you would be getting extensive symptoms. Anyway, fibroids are not usually contraindications for pregnancy. This is because fibroids can easily be...

I had a partial hysterectomy in September due to fibroids in my uterus. I had a great recovery with little down time. One month ago I started having some pain on the left side of my abdomen where I believe my ovaries are located. Tonight I had some bloody (old blood) discharge. Could this be fibroids on my ovaries now?

My sister just told me that she has a mass measuring 22mm on her uterus. She is an otherwise healthy female 32.5yrs old. About 5 5 and weighs about 155-160lbs. There is a family history on the Maternal side of fibroids and Uterine/ovarian cancer. Is there a correlation between the size and whether or not it is cancerous? Also there has been active bleeding and her doctor is calling for surgery to remove the mass. Obviously I am concerned especially since we do not live close.
