I recently contracted influenza and am still recovering from it. Thank God for Tamiflu . Also had the stomach virus (throw up, head spins). I cannot have a flu shot because of a serious allergy to the preservative used in most shots. Is there a way I can get this without a shot? If so, would it be of help for me to get it now?

doctor1 MD

Hello,
The serious allergy to preservative in most shots is not clear, and you may be referring to the egg protein if you have egg allergy.

The influenza vaccine should be taken in the autumn before winter sets in for it to be effective.
People with egg allergy can have the influenza vaccine...

Hi,
My 10.5 month old baby had an allergic reaction to egg on 13th September. His ears swelled up and were extremely red and he developed a rash on his body. He was rushed to hospital and given piriton. After he was given medication he vomitted and also had diarohhea.
On 18th September (5 days later) he woke up with what looked like a bruise on his ear. This then appeared on the other side but only a very small amount. His ear was swollen and are purplish / blueish in colour.
Are the 2 linked and what can it be?

doctor1 MD

Brief Answer:
The present stage is just a normal progression of the previous one.

Dear Sir, My son is having stomech pain whenever he takes egg white (Boiled). What is the reason and how to avoid it.

doctor1 MD

Hi,

kid who eats eggs because his or her immune system isn't fully developed and can't handle the protein in eggs. (Most children who are allergic to eggs are allergic to the protein that's in the egg whites).

Back in high school I had sudden allergic reaction to egg too, but I m not allergic to eggs. Now a college student by the way.

doctor1 MD

Hello Game,
So you had a moderate to severe allergic reaction and even though you mention at the start you have no food allergies - which usually means 'never' - you say you had egg allergy.
You definitely need skin prick test against the common food panel - peanut, cashewnut (if you had a...

I had a flu shot and a tb test last week on Tues, on Friday I started to notice a weird feeling on my tongue . It is sort of a numb, non tingling feeling and is noticeable on the left side. Also, the feeling now includes the left side of my lips . I am a 38yo male and have no other signs or symptoms. Could this be an allergic reaction from either injections? The tb test was red and indurated. The first tb test I ever had was negative (over 10yrs ago), the second was positive, the third was negative, and this recent one was positive. I have read that you can have an allergic reaction to certain manufacturers and is why it was positive the second time. Thank you.

doctor1 MD

Hello,
If the TB test you are referring to was the Mantoux test, then the positivity reflects either past immunization or exposure. There is usually no need to repeat this so many times as in you case. if the question is latent TB (i.e., the doctors think you may have TB, but not sure) then a new...

I received a flu shot ( heavy dose for my age 72) on October 12, 2012, within a few days my allergies got worse, heavy draining of my head and then began to experience loss of hearing in both ears. Had a steroid shot on Monday, Oct 22 and a second shot on Friday , Oct 26. I have now taken for two days prednisone 10 mg tablet. As of today my hearing is still blocked and I can barely hear. My doctor also flushed my ears on Oct. 26. Can a flu shot cause this type reaction or do you think that there my be other reasons and that I should see a specialist not just go back to my internist. Thank you,

doctor1 MD

Hello,
You can have a reaction to the influenza vaccine and as there are many excipients in the vaccines, it is best that you see a specialist and explain the reaction you had.
People with severe egg allergy react to the flu jab as the virus is cultured in egg and studies using vaccines from...

Hi, I used to be able to have as many as 4-5 eggs during the course of the day. But starting last year, every time I would have even a single full egg, I'd get a stomach upset with loose motion. After some experimentation, I realized that I may be allergic to the egg yolk. Can such an allergy develop suddenly, and is there any way to work around it? Thank you!

I have 21 year old daughter 5 8 and 110 lbs. She has adopted a vegan diet due to lactose intolerance, egg allergy, and apple allergy. She doesn t want to eat meat due to the vegan reasoning. I feel she is emaciated, her sacrum and shoulder joints are skin and bones, and she has no fullness in her lips. She refuses to see herself as too skinny and continues to count calories for the wrong reasons in my view; I believe she should count to insure enough, she focuses on less. I believe this is bad for her heart as well as everything else. She plans to begin interviewing for Law School this spring. She is a straight A student, perfectionist, driven, and exceedingly difficult for me to communicate with. She does eat, but not enough. Any ideas?
