Dysentery

What is Dysentery?

Dysentery is an intestinal inflammation, especially in the colon, that can lead to severe diarrhea with mucus or blood in the feces. Patients typically experience mild to severe abdominal pain or stomach cramps. In some cases, untreated dysentery can be life-threatening, especially if the infected person cannot replace lost fluids fast enough.

Hello Dr.I was suffered from dysentery for 8 hours. Can I use revitale multi time release(multivitamines and minerals) tablet to recover the vitamines and minerals released during the dysentery process. If yes, then how should I use these tablets.I will be tankful for ur suggestion.

doctor1 MD

Hello dear
I understand your concern
Yes you can take the revital tablet for the compensation.
But it is not the treatment of the dysentery and it has very minor role.
Main loss is water in the dysentry.
I advise you to go for stool microscopy and clture to find out the cause.
As a treating...

my 5 months baby has a fever 38.8 C i did stool test the lab results is: rbs:2-4, pus cells 1-3, and M.bacteria + and all others = nil i took him before 10 days with the same symptoms to a doctor and he prescribed augmentin but after i finished the medicine the fever now recurrred with same stool charecteristics heavy mucus and indigestion

doctor1 MD

Stool testing without dysentery (mucus and blood in stool) is of no use and you did not mention that your child had this before or not. Moreover, Augmentin by itself can induce loose stools and so in your case I would not recommend antibiotics now. If the dysentery is the problem now, I would...

Doc,Good day. I had had dysentery for 3 days that developed to sharp abdominal pains which lasted for another 3 days. I started stooling first, fresh blood enveloping the faeces. Later, the blood became dark and thicker and toileting became more frequent. As i write, the procedures are still coming but infrequently. Since then, i had administered tetracycline and other painkillers such as paracetamol. Please your advice will be very useful. Thanks. P. Mbum
