my grandson is 8 days old and was readmitted to hospital suffering from dehydration . My daughter is trying to breast feed and supplementing this with a bottle. He has fat globular motion every time he passes motion, why is this and is it anything to be concerned about. The midwives did not pass comment on it but we want to check.

doctor1 MD

Hello
Its very unusual for a 8 days old baby to get admitted to hospital only for dehydration. Diarrhea in this age group is mostly due to sepsis or some congenital abnormality like primary lactose intolerance or congenital chloride diarrhea.
Feeding with bottle itself is a cause of infection.
In...

hi my 14 year old son has had some issues with dehydration. Last night at his football game he had his 3rd spell. He was mumbling was easily startled and was having facial tics. Once he ate and drank he started coming around and was back to normal within an hour or so. Does dehydration cause such issues or is there something else going on?

doctor1 MD

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Dehydration will not cause such episode.
This paroxysmal event and the spells are looking like some tics.
At the same time seizures like focal in origin should be ruled out by reviewing his history and doing investigations like EEG, CT Scan brain....

My 15 year old daughter just found a small lump on the right side of her neck just below her ear. Last week she went to the emergency room due to excessive vomiting and dehydration. They ran several tests to rule out Mono and Appendicitis. Those two test came back negative, however, a reading of the CT scan of her ABD (w/out contrast) showed a slightly enlarged spleen. Her WBC was a little over 17,000. She seems fine otherwise. The lump is sore when it is pressed on.
