I am a 46-year-old female with a strong familial background of breast cancer, each occurring late in my relatives' lives and none fatal. Two months ago, I had my doctor do a very thorough manual check of my breasts, and he said he felt nothing amiss. Today I finally had my yearly mammogram, after putting it off for six months for fear of the outcome. I will not know the results until tomorrow or the next day. I am very worried. What are the chances of something being detected in my mammogram, given that my manual exam was normal?

doctor1 MD

Hello and thanks for your query.

From the description it seems that you are very apprehensive about cancer.

A mammogram is an X-ray test of the breasts (mammary glands) used to screen for breast problems, such as a lump, and whether a lump is fluid-filled (a cyst) or a solid mass. It is very...

Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM.

First of all you need to visit a surgeon for physical examination of that lump...and an FNAC or mammogram as he mau advice.

Depending upon that only one can advice you to continue that medicine or not.

welcome to Health care magic.
1.It could be a benign mass, fat , cyst , lypoma.
2.But you can not just ignore the condition.
3.Get an appointment with your doctor and let the doctor examine your lump and get an ultrasound scan done.

Hi Doctor, I am a 38 year old transgender woman (mtf), 5 11 , 235lbs, non smoker. I take avodart (anti androgen), coumadin and a small daily dose of eltroxin for hypothyroid. On July 4th I had breast implant surgery and 4 days post op developed a DVT. I was treated in the hospital and still take coumadin. My question is this: Due to my being transgender I am really concerned because I was taken off of estrogen when the DVT developed and I would like to begin taking estrogen again. Is it ok for me to begin taking estrogen at this point? My leg has never fully reduced to its normal size; however I also don t swell much either even after longs walks or standing on my feet all day. YYYY@YYYY
