Hi, I'm 25, weigh 130 lbs., and I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder several years ago. I came off medications recently because I felt that they were not helping and that I was probably misdiagnose in the first place. But now I've grown rather depressed throughout this process and I'm not sure where to go from this stage. Any suggestions?
Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern for these symptoms. Basically what you are having is depression which is usually found in people having bipolar disorder. Sometimes there are mixed episodes in which features of both mania and depression are present at the same...
I have been in a dating relationship with a female for ten months. After 4 months I found out she was seeing a psychologist for depression. She told me she was taking Zoloft. She has problems sleeping and she just told me that she had been hearing negative voices for a long time and they don't go away. I ask her if she had told her psychologist about the negative voices and she said she hadn't. Should I be concerned about continuing in this relationship? I am widowed and my wife passed away from cancer and I am 63 years and very healthy.

my name is XXXXXXX and i have a few questions about it. my girlfriend haven't had her period yet, it supposed to be today, but instead she bled this dark blood, and she told me that she had a stomach ache, is this alright? and can this make her feel uncomfortable? angry? change of mood?
Thanks for your query.
The discharge of black and brown blood just prior to the onset of normal bleeding during periods is a normal variation. Passage of brown blood is discharge of old clotted blood.
I am almost 21 years old, weight 130, with a height of 5'5". I have noticed a pattern in changes in my body over the past year. I have had both physical and metal changes and was curious if they were connected to one another. I have had extremely irregular periods, slight abdominal pains, and a decrease in my diet that have been going on for the last three months. I do not seem to be losing weight and have never had problems with my diet before now. I have always had a big appetite up until now where I fill up after 6-7 bites. I don't crave food like before and have found myself forcing it down just to stay healthy.
I was prescribed to a birth control that has been helping control my periods over the last 3 years. I have been having regular periods for the last 2 years up until about three months ago.
At first I assumed the abdominal pains were caused by my periods but they are not cramps. They feel slightly higher and do not come and go. They also continue when I am not on my cycle as well.
Along with this I have found that I go through phases where I feel extremely down and push myself away from the people and activities that I love.
I have just assumed that this was all connected to stress and the possible genetic trait shared by my dad. My dad was diagnosed with depression a little over a year ago and is currently taking medication. I was wondering if these symptoms are something I should be concerned about and if so what are the steps I need to be taking? At this point I just feel incredibly frustrated with my body and feel as if I can not control my moods or my physical condition. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for writing your query with details. I would like to start off with saying that physical and psychological symptoms can go hand in hand. Dysfunctional body systems can affect the mental processes and vice-versa. That's how physical exercise can help maintain a healthy...
i was recently weaning down on Zoloft but have been on the same dose now for over a month. I get these electrical shock like feelings through my body seeming to end with lip tingling. I thought at first it was from the weaning down but now I'm not sure. I seem to be ok if sitting down but as soon as I get up it starts all over again.
Thanks for the query.
As you have stated that you are suffering from long term depression, and you are on following medications like zoloft, clonazepam, vit d, vit b complex.
Now I will discuss about each of the drug---
1- zoloft( sertraline)--IT is an SSRI, used mainly in severe...

The major thing is in meetng today i could not concentrate and at times speaking seems like a chore. can this all be caused ny stress, do i need to be checked for somehting more severe?
Hello and thanks for the query.
Stress is a very powerful emotion. The mind and body connection which we only understand very little about can really significantly affect your daily function. As you have reported you are under a significant degree of stress. I imagine there may be some component...
Is there any form of medication to make you more creative and talkative? Last year I lost my ability to have long conversations with people. It was as if there was something stopping me from being able to find topics to talk about. I'd talk to someone and quickly run out of things to talk about which is strange because I used to brilliant at conversing with people. This problem is seriously effecting my social life and I want it sorted out as soon as possible.
Thanks for the query.
From your query it is clear that there is decrease in creativity and talkativeness from your previous self. You have this problem from last year that mean total duration of symptoms is more than 6 month. As this problem is affecting your social life you are definitely...
I have been battling a fatique and lack of appetite problem for a couple weeks now. I have been checked in an ER 4 times in the last month and all test are coming back normal. I recently started seeing a cardiologist and got an echo done and kidney arteries sonogramed. I am ready to check into a phych hospital tomorrow and was wandering if the ER's could pick up if I am in beggining stages of heart failure?
Thanks for posting your query. There are many causes of loss of appetite and fatigue and beginning of heart failure is one of the reasons. But since you have got a checkup done from a cardiologist and ECHO has come out normal , so it literally rules out a heart failure.
I am suffering from depression chronically and under a supervision of a psychiatrist. I want to get rid of this depression permanently. I want to become very intelligent and very active too, and social too.
Please advise on this problem and reply
Hello thanks for asking from HCM
You have depression and are under supervision of a psychiatrist. Depression is treatable with both medicinal and psychological treatment.
Common anti-depressant medicines used in depression are SSRIs like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline etc or SNRIs are...
my problem is I'm trying to diagnose a severe cognitive impairment, that I have always had to some extent, (potentially due to a hypoxiainjury at birth,) but has grown 10 fold after a severe and lasting psychotic break in XXXXXXX of 2005. Basically, in short, I lost the ability to simply think, remember, problem solve etc. in the matter of a week, while actively psychotic. The psychosis lasted about 4 months, and since then I have struggled to get some of my cognitive abilities back...but sadly I was bed bound for almost those 4 years after the incident. I made some impressive improvements, was actively volunteering, etc. and could even do some reading and remembered what I read. But after a recent, Feb 2011, traumatic incident in a hospital, I spiraled into a delirious state, and am much lower cognitively than I was even just prior. I have read all kinds of things on the "good" medical web sites, and one said delirium can lead to also, permanent cognitive problems. Now I am scared because I'm 35 and funcitoning at such a low brain level...what will I be like in 10 years? even 1 year? Other symptoms include extreme mental fog, extreme lethargy...and a feeling like my brain has been "fried." I simply cannot remember anything long term, except foggy bits here and there. There are other symptoms as well. I got evaluated several times by neurologists and psychiatrists, and I passed the neuro tests, MRI in 09 was normal, and I'm looking here, for, a realistic idea of what you may think could happen to me with cognition over time. I have a schizoaffective diagnosis, also been told I'm bipolar. I can assure you I haven't had any positive psychosis in almost 3 years.
Thanks for your query.
After studying your history in detail the cognitive impairment is likely due to the Schizoaffective disorder and /or the Bipolar disorder.
Let me explain to you my observations.
The causes for the cognitive impairment are : A. Organic brain disorders like Psychosis ,...
since last one week, I had swelling on my head and I went saw a neurologist today and he did CT scan and told to have Stalopam Plus 10 MG every day for next 30 days. But in internet the reviews says that it was given to depression patients. I was not a depression patient... I hit the bed when I slept that s why swelling. Shall I use this medicine or not?
My cousin, aged 39, is suffering from Parkinsons disease, for the past six years. This has restricted movement and control of his right hand and legs. Who would be the best doctor in India? He has become very depressive and also suffers pain in the limbs, neck and head. Is there a cure? What should we do?
I am 15 and I have had my period twice this month. Once was for 2 and 1/2 weeks (which is not usual) and a week later I started my period again. I currently have really bad cramping and a heavy flow. Could my new birth control affect my period? Also I just started another depression medication too.
For the past several weeks I have had extreme nausea. It is first thing in the morning and especially severe after I eat. I dry heave several times a day. I am also experiencing more fatigue than normal ( I have severe chronic depression). I am positive I am not pregnant. What else could this be?
Dr. Sheppe my last question was closed. I'm guessing you have access to what I wrote about Lamictal and my past situation with Meds, so that I don't have to retype. You said you've read it over in detail and have some suggestions/thoughts. I'd be...
