Hi, From last few weeks, on some days when I get up from sleep and turn my head towards left suddenly i feel dizzy...and when i turn myself towards right side and stay there for a minute things will become alright...Once i get up from bed i dont have any such issues. Can someone help me in understanding why this is happening - Sree

Hi Sree,

It may be the beginning of Benign Positional Postural Vertigo or BPPV.

In your case, it occurs only as you get up from bed. There is no need for medications here.

Be a little slow while you get up from bed. Do not make rapid movements.

Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated...

I suffer from benign posterior vertigo and in the past had to have a procedure called Eplytes I think to help. However 2 years ago I was having a few problems and was given Amitriptyline . I only take a very small dose 25mg at night. I have not had a vertigo attack for the 2 years I have been taking it. Is there any coonection between taking Amitriptyline and Vertigo. Has there been any reports of it helping vertigo? Thank you
Hi. Why do you not take this a help in disguise. If amitriptiline helps , continue if advised by your Doctor to continue. This is the most well tested medicine with the least side effects. As far as your question - yes it helps in many cases of so-called vertigo.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

It is postural vertigo
The body's balancing mechanism is in the inner ear. An ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist is the one to see. They have special tests to confirm or exclude the contribution of the ear - which probably is the case with you.

It may be from...

For two years, I have had Vertigo symptoms in my head. I started with two debilitating vertigo attacks. I went to an
Audiology facility. They thought it might be "crystals" were out of balance. This condition has continued. I have continued "brain fog", squishing sounds in my head and crcket sounds in my ears, especially at night. I have been to an ENT doctor, vascular testing, MRI for brain scan and my GP. They cannot pinpoint any particular cause. Perhaps you can give me some ideas. Thank you.

Thank you for your query.

1. BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is a spinning sensation which occurs due to displacement of crystals in the semicircular canals of the inner ear is fairly easy to establish. If the vertigo occurs on change of head position with respect to gravity...

I feel dizzy, no headache , no fever . I feel as if I went on the tea cups. Lightheaded, dizzy, and slightly nauseas from being dizzy. It becomes worse when I move my head or move around and continues in a seated position or when I close my eyes. This was preceded by, what I believe low blood sugar , but I always eat something and feel better, which I did, but this happened a little while later.
hi NParis,
Thanks for writing your query.

The cause of your dizziness seems more towards ear problem resulting in postural vertigo as indicated by you that your diziness increases on moving your head.

You should get yourself investigated and examined by an ENT specialist.
Also get yourself...

First,I dont think that her symptoms of dizziness and nausea are directly related to the kidney stone. These are gastro intestinal symptoms and should occur due to an GI problem or due to circulatory problems.

She should get her Blood pressure checked first. Then if...

Vertigo is what you may be experiencing. It is called Benign Postural Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Tablets like Vertin may help you but it is a prescription drug.

The cause has to be confirmed a clinical examination of you.
