Questions and answers on "Adult acne"

Hi my name is Amanda,
I have recently been prescribed to Gildess FE 1/20 birth control. My two main reasons for getting on birth control was to help reduce the heaviness of my menstrual cycle and improve my adult acne. Reading reviews by users has been difficult to come by. Those I have found mentioned having missed periods while on Gildess FE. Is this a common side effect, and will this improve my problem with adult acne?

I took 250 mg of zinnat twice a day prescribed by a doctor in Paris for a cold that had moved into my lungs. While taking it my adult acne began to clear up. This happens whenever I take antibiotics but comes back as soon as I stop. My husband had the cold also so he added a refill to the Rx in case he became worse, I refilled it for myself to keep my skin clear. This was before Christmas and my skin in greatly improved but not completely cleared up. Would it be safe to take another dosage?

Hello Mike,

I am Dr Mbong.

Each vial of long acting forms of cortisone can last for weeks to months (1-3) in the blood system.

So with the 13 injections it can take 3-6 months before their effects wane from your body. This will depend on how good your kidneys are, how much of water you drink (to...

I am currently on Isotretinoin 20mg for the past 7 weeks for moderate adult acne . Although there was a huge improvement in the first month, I am seeing a couple of cystic acne in the second month. Is it common? My dermatologist doesnt recommend an increase in dosage as she feels this should reduce as cumulative dosage takes effect. Please advise

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Isotretinoin is considered to be the drug of choice for nodulocystic acne. The standard dosing is in the range of 0.5 to 1 mg/ kg body weight per day. If you are having just one or two cystic lesions, your doctor might be right in keeping the dose constant. However...
