Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi Praveen/
Welcome to HCM,
Pnumococcal prevents from Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. This bacteria causes not only pneumonia but also meningitis and Otitis media(middle ear infection).Although this is relatively newer vaccine but now a days it is getting popularity for its good prevented function.
And now the vaccine schedule of the vaccine for your unvaccinated baby-
1.Single dose at a time (no booster dose is needed)
So go for a single dose and get protected.
I hope the advice will help you.
Thanks.

Pediatrician Dr. Y V Siva Sankara Murty's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Pneumococcal vaccine can be given to your baby. Since your child crossed 2 year mark single dose of pneumoccal vaccine is sufficient. (this recommendation is for normal children who do not have any other problem like splenectomy etc.)

Pneumococcal vaccine is a optional vaccine. As per Indian acadamy of pediatrics you can get pneumococcal vaccine after discussing with your pediatrician.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
