Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Will There Be Blood In Stool Post Inguinal Hernia Surgery?
On Monday, so now seven days ago I had inguinal hernia surgery (it was laparoscopic surgery) with mesh repair. The doctor informed me I would not have bowl movement until Thursday. I did not have a BM until Saturday and there were large amounts of blood on the stools and after wiping. Also during the surgery there was a fluid sac that he found and remove to further test. I have yet to hear about the results. I am curious if bloody stools are common after a surgery of this kind?
HI. There should not be a bloody stool after this kind of surgery. This may be in your case a fissure in ano - causing blood on stool and on wiping. Please check with the surgeon to confirm. Id you do not have pain in abdomen/ vomiting / distension, there may not be a reason to worry about.
