Am a relatively healthy septuagenarian. Taking Exforge HCT---which lowered my BP dramatically-- and 1 baby aspirin qd. But over the phone, I just heard that my total cholesterol is 274! I already cut out red meats from my diet, am 5' tal & weigh 100 lbs. so overweight is not a problem............so do YOU think I should take statin therapy?

Hello,
High cholesterol levels are a risk factor for coronary heart disease.
It is good that you have cut red meat from your diet and taking other precautions regarding diet, but since your age is above 70 and you are a hypertension patient, you must start a statin therapy.
Talk to your doctor for the proper dose and type of statin to start.
I hope it helps.
Thanks
