Hi I Have Been Diagnosed With Factor V And My What Do You Suggest For Pregnancy Complications And Placental Abruption?

Hi I have been diagnosed with factor V and my younger sister who also was tested at that time for MTHFR in which hers came back with that mutation. My doctor never did test me for MTHFR the doctor assumed then that I have it and now my sibling and I have been investigating some things. I have many health issues, 2 PE's, pregnancy complications years ago pre eclampsia, and placental abruption, HBP, high cholesterol, anxiety, vertigo, joint pain a few times out of the year where it';s severe. Should I start taking supplements for it or go and tell my doctor I want to be tested asap.

I assume from your question that you are currently pregnant again. given a history of preeclampsia, two PEs, a previous abruption and the rest, you are clearly at significant risk for pregnancy complications. it is almost certain that you have a disorder of hypercoagulability, and factor V Leiden is such a disorder. the truth is, that regardless of whether or not you also have MTHFR probably won't make that much of a clinical difference, as you need to be treated aggressively anyway.

I assume that your doctor will discuss with you treatment with lovenox or with heparin throughout your pregnancy. if not, you definitely need to discuss this with him/her. although you will probably be treated the same either way, I think that you should be tested for MTFHR as well, if you haven't been already. discuss that with your doctor and find out why he/she doesn't want to test you for this, maybe I am missing something. I hope this is helpful, good luck on the pregnancy!
