Diagnosed Spontaneous Pnemothorax. Done X-ray. Advised Oxygen Therapy, Surgical Pleurodesis. Complications?
i am a medical Doctor.my son 19yrs 6.3 feet tal thin has been diagnosed as spontaneous pnemothorax left sided on 28/09/2013.his repeated xray chest are same till date.he has advised oxygen therapy at home and surgical pleurodesis after his completion of exams in december.2013

If its the first time he has had a pneumo then u may not do a pleurodesis however the lung should come up to maintain oxygenation
As you say the lungs have not come up then you need to give 100 % oxygen and see. Even then if it doesn't then surgery remains the only option as either the fistula is not allowing the lungs to expand or a thick pleura. You can also apply negative suction and see after putting icd.
Surgical pleurodesis is the best but talc insufflation byVATS will have the same result
