What Disorders Can Hydrogen Breath Test Detect With History Of GERD Due To Irritated Stomach Lining And Esophagus?

I had an endoscopy and a gastric emptying test done recently. I have had both these tests done 3 yrs ago, I was diagnosed with gastroparesis but it has gone into remission. The last emptying test showed no delayed emptying. However, during the endoscopy I was diagnosed with GERD due to the irritation to the bottom of my esophogus but there was also irritation to my stomach lining. My next test is a hydrogen breath test. My question is what is this test trying to diagnosed. They mentioned that it would show an overgrowth of bacteria in the intestines, would this cause stomach lining irritation? And if so, what is the treatment at that point? Are there other disorders this test can detect?

hi there
read your query
it is very nice question

gerd stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease
in simple words- excessive acidity, so much so that the acid is getting vomitted out from the stomch to esophagus

the most common causes of this are
a. h pylori infection
b. use of painkillers

the 2 best tests for h pylori are
a. rapid urease test
b. breath test

the idea is to find out if you have an infection, and then treat it
an infection can easily be treated
however, i should let you know that even after full treatment
h pylori may return

i hope that answers you and the information is relevant and helpful
best of luck
