Is Alcohol Allowed While Suffering From Cystic Fibrosis?

My husband has cf and he is 40. He is in good health. He likes to drink alcohol but it does not suit him...he coughs and has sleep issues when he drinks...especially after drinking wine and beer.
Should he even be drinking alcohol?
Why would Beer and wine affect his breathing?
Thank you.
