PID or Pelvic inflammatory disease is the term given to inflammatory process of mainly the fallopian tubes and the surrounding associated ligaments. There are a variety of causative pathogens:
1. N. gonorrhea- transmission mainly ascending by cervical route.
2. Chlamydia
3. Polymicrobial: due to multiple organisms.
4. coliform organisms; ascending from GIT route
5. Tuberculosis: mostly after primary respiratory infection.
These are common causes. Each of them have specific presentations and treatments.
