I had reconstructive breast surgery in mid feb. Since then, a week later. I have had constant night sweats , white spots in back of throat only on left side, developed to pea size, sore throat , swollen, dry mouth,. Had also gotten a uti last week, got cipro. On day 2 the white spot was gone. Since then I have noticed large sores on back of tongue.....what is going on?

Hi

I congratulate you for successfully undergoing the reconstructive surgery. Any major surgery done under endotracheal tube anesthesia, that means anesthesia given through a tube inserted through your throat, for a long duration, say more than one or two hours will cause this sort of problems. This is because of infection and subsequent inflammation. The white spots are nothing but lymphoid tissue in your throat which got enlarged because of the infection. This will settle gradually. No need to worry. Avoid cold food intake, including ice creams and cool drinks. Pls do frequent warm salt water gargling. Wish you all the best for a faster recovery.
