HI, thanks for using healthcare magic Metronidazole is used for clostridium difficile gastroenteritis. It is not indicated for all types of gastroenteritis. Many children have viral gastroenteritis and an anti bacterial agent such as metronidazole would not be effective. It would also not be used for many other types of bacterial gastroenteritis infections. I hope this helps

that's not unusual. sometimes the symptoms from a viral gastroenteritis can last for a week or two. Advil and Tylenol are good antipyretic (fever reducing) drugs.
