Diagnosed With Bi-polar. On Cymbalta And Mood Stabilizer. Have Mania With Depression. Advice?

I am 50 years old and since I was 20 struggled with depression and anxiey. I was recently diagnosed with
bi polar 2 and was put on Cymbalta and a mood stabilizer. The Cymbalta has pushed me into rapid cycling mixed symptoms of mania with depression. I am losing hope as I have read that this is the hardest type of Bi-polar to treat. I have heard of dark therapy, what is your opinion?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

Cymbalta contains duloxetine which is an anti depressant medication. If it has been taken without cover of mood stabilizer or if taken inadvertantly for longer than required time, it may cause rapid cycling mania.

Rapid cycling mania is indeed difficult to treat but you should not worry as there are many medicines available to control it.

You should consult your psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and treatment. Doctor may rule out thyroid dysfunction which is also a common cause of rapid cycling mania.

Doctor maya dvise you to stop symbalta and may start two mood stabilizers or lamotrigine or clozapine if needed, depending upon your observation and tolerability.

Dark therapy is not proven or approved treatment of rapid cycling mania.

I hope this will help you.
Thanks.
