Hello, tonsillitis needs a few days to get better. If it's viral (which applies for the majority of cases) then the antibiotic won't help. If it's bacterial then the antibiotic might reduce the disease duration a bit and will prevent local complications. Azithromycin is an acceptable choice for tonsillitis. 3 days treatment is required. Hi It is a upper respiratory tract infection with tonsillitis.So you should take antibiotics as soon as possible.Delay in antibiotics can cause complications like mid ear infections.So better see your doctor for that.Usually amoxycillin plus clavulanic acid is given as antibiotic of choice for this empirically.
