Well, you don't get cancer from lymphedema, but it can be caused by surgery. It can also be painful etc.

Dear patient, I presume that you must have had surgery for breast cancer. Once lymph nodes are resected there is a tendency for lymphedema. Elevation of the extremity, massaging the extremity from fingers to shoulder, and ACE wrapping can help alleviate some of the swelling.
