Tapered Off The Welbutrin. On Hpt And St.johns Wart. Still Emotional And Sad. Therapy Is Not Helping. Treatment?

how long after zoloft does it take to get back to pre zoloft? I tapered off, with the help of welbutrin for several weeks, that was about 3 months ago. I also tapered off the welbutrin. I have been using 5 hpt and st.johns wart since. It helps somewhat, but I am still very emotional and sad. I refuse to go back on any of the ssri drugs and I find the clinical theraphy useless. After 7 years, a waste of time. I have bad days and would really like to get back to being me again. Any help is welcome.

As I understand, you have been suffering from sadness and emotional difficulties for the last 7 years.

a) Have you had episodes of moderate or severe depression lasting a few months at a time?

b) Or do you have a mild and persisting sadness that refuses to abate for all these years - no matter what medications you take?

c) Have you had any episodes of being upbeat, energetic, confident, requiring less than usual amount of sleep, sometimes being a little rash or indulging in risk-taking behaviour? If so, do reveal these episodes to your psychiatrist who may have to modify the treatment regimen a little to bring you out of your depression.

I suppose you have the second pattern (b), which is probably compounded with life's stresses.

In chronic and mild depression, allopathic medications are sometimes very poorly effective. Tricyclic antidepressants (like amitryptiline) may be effective, if you have not been given that so far. However, they do have significant sedation, dryness of mouth and blurring of vision as common troublesome side-effects. Moreover, they should not be used if you have had problem (c) above.

You may try alternative medications (such as St John's Wort which you are already trying) under supervision from someone who is experienced in prescribing them.

Yoga and meditation are also a form of treatment which can help you. You may try it if the resources are available close to where you live.

If stresses are a major concern, you may even go for Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from a clinical psychologist.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history. You have not mentioned the reason for opting out of SSRI treatment.

5 hydoxy tryptane and st John warts are good add on antidepressant drug which are not yet approved as primary anti depressant drug by FDA. If you feel better with that you may continue with it.

There are many other group of anti depressant drugs like selective nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitors, like desvenlafaxine or duloxetine etc or agomelatin like drugs acting on melatonin receptors. You may take this drug after consultation with your psychiatrist .

Simultaneous to drug, you may go for counselling and psychotherapy.

Meanwhile , you can do stress management and relaxation exercise like breathing exercise or yoga, meditation for better control over depression and stress.

I hope It may help you.

Thanks.
