The disease is diagnosed by a series of laboratory tests. Various skin tests may be done: 1. The Montenegro skin test and the result based on skin reaction 2. Biopsy of the spleen 3. Lymph node biopsy 4. Bone marrow biopsy 5. Aldehyde test widely used in India for the diagnosis of Kala-azar 6. Serological tests like ELISA and IFAT (Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test) are the commonly done diagnostic tests. Other complementary tests are: 1. Complete blood count (CBC) 2. Haemoglobin check 3. Serum albumin 4. Serum protein
