Hi, Sputum gram stain Pus cells=>25/hpf,Squamus epith cells=<25/hpf indicates sputum is suitable for culture and sensitivity. Gram positive cocci in chains or pairs usually streptococcus pneumonae or Pneumococci;Gram neg bacilli could be pseudomonads ,Klebsiella, Proteus, Enterobacter. However the sensitivity and specificity of the sputum Gram's stain and culture are highly variable.
