When Will It Be Able To Scuba Dive After Sleeve Gastrectomy?

Hello, I had lap sleeve gastrectomy done a week ago and I had already signed up for an open water scuba diving course which I m supposed to start in August. Does the difference in pressure make the stomach expand and thus put me at risk? When will I be able to scuba dive after sleeve gastrectomy? Thank you. Best, Stephanie.

Gstric sleeve procedure carries with it a very short recovery period, but this recovery period excludes any form of strenous activity and a strict restricted diet initially.

Scuba diving is an activity that increases the pressure both externally and internally, which could prove to be harmful to the sleeve created. Doctor's usually recommend against such activities after a gastric sleeve, but if you really wish to do so I would first recommend a complete evaluation by your doctor and at least a 3-6 month gap between the procedure, and the activity (scuba diving). Wishing you lots of luck and a quicker and complete recovery so you could return to your active lifestyle.
