Marginal Zone Lymphoma In Breast. What May I Expect?

Via my annual mammogram (then ultrasound...then biopsy ), lab came back with marginal zone lymphoma . As I am sure you know, arising in the breast is uncommon. Dr said he was a surprised as I must be. Have not been to Oncologist yet (next week) Dr also advised that, due to the rarity, he is not up-to-speed with this type (Dr is am Lucy Curci Cancer Center at Eisenhower in Palm Desert, CA). Might you know what I may expect? I am a 58 y/o female/ Thank you

Hello and welcome to HCM
Mantle zone lymphoma is a malignancy of lymph nodes.
It is known to occur at extra-nodal sites like gastro-intestinal tract, thyroid, lung and breast.
Presence of marginal zone lymphoma in breast accounts for only 4 % cases of extra-nodal cases.
This is alymphoma of B lymphocytes.
This lymphoma has an indolent course and spread to other organ systems is slow.
Further you need to get a bone marrow examination as spread to bone marrow is an omnious sign.
Spread to blood also signifies a poor prognosis.

Treatmwnt modalities are a combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
