What To Do For Severe Anemia?

I was diagnosed with severe anemia about a year and a half ago. Since then I have been taking iron prescribed for me however I'm always tired and my last blood test the Dr. told me to take 2 iron tablets now. Many tests were done but they never found the cause of the problem. I asked my regular Dr. to refer me to a hematologist but he doesn't think it's necessary. He also said not to increase my iron. I'm really tired of being tired. Thanks
