Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
We found out today my 6-month old daughter has a heart murmur. I was a bit surprised to see how long (5 min.) her ped. listened to her heart. He referred me to get an EKG and chest x-ray and then go see a pediatric cardiologist. My only concern with this is he is soooo not one of those pediricians who overreacts with things. My other daughter had what seemed like 20 ear infections before he suggested tubes. Could something be severely wrong???
My husband had a heart murmur he outgrew. He never had to go to a cardiologist or anything like that. I am getting concerned.
My second daughter had what they thought was a heart murmur at birth. She had all the tests and then we were referred to a pediatric cardiologist.
He took a quick look at the tests then put the stethoscope on her chest and listened. First sitting up and then laying down. Then he told me it wasn't a heart murmur. It went away when she laid down. A heart murmur wouldn't go away.
It had something to do with the blood rushing down from her head into the blood vessels in her chest when she was upright. It made some noise. He called it venous hum and said she would outgrow it. She did. She's fine and a mother of two children now.
Stay calm. Even if it is a valve problem they can give medicine until she's bigger.
