Hi, the smoking makes the Grave's dx worse and also the eye related problem with it and make the treatment for eye dx less effective, Although most of the studies regarding smoking and Thyroid dx have been done on cigarettes and found the Cyanide has the worst effect but other component like Nicotine which found in E-cig could be toxin to thyroid,too. Play it safe and have no regret later.

Hello, and thank you for your question. If you were my patient, I would likely recommend RAI or one of the other non-surgical treatments. Surgery is useful when one of the non-surgical treatments is not successful. In the hands of a competent surgeon, complications are rare; but can include damage to the vocal cords and/or parathyroid glands, plus the risks associated with general anesthesia.
