I have dealt with nasal polyps and hypertrophy of my turbinates for some time now. In an attempt to treat my congestion, I have been on fluticasone propionate nasal spray for many months along with 180mg of fexofenadine HCl. Recently, montelukast sodium was added and I've been doing sinus irrigation twice a day. Because my condition has not seemed to improve, my PCP sent me for a CT scan which revealed "Sinus mucosal thickening narrow/occludes both ostiomeatal units. Sinus mucosal thickening and mucus retention cysts or polyps within both maxillary sinuses." The CT also showed "Partial opacification of right sided mastoid air cells, correlate for any symptomatology of mastoiditis. Normal aeration of left sided mastoid air cells. No significant septal deviation or concha bullosa." I'm slightly confused by the part about "correlate for any symptomatology of mastoiditis." Does this mean I HAVE mastoiditis? From the research I've done, it doesn't seem very desirable. My PCP seems to think I may require surgery but I'm being referred to an ENT for a nasal endoscopy and so he can review the CT results himself. What treatment do you see in store for me? Can you confirm mastoiditis?
