Hi, Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic. Enlarged tonsils are due to hypertrophy of tonsils during this age group or due to inflammation because of infection or allergy. As the age grows, there will be shrinking in the size of tonsils so that surgery may not be required. Tonsillitis can be treated with antibiotics. Hope I have answered your query. Regards.

Tonsillitis can be treated with antibiotics and warm saline water with avoidance of cold food items.Tonsils and lymph nodes in the body is a part of immunity and it gets enlarged in response to infection.As the child grows the severity and frequency of tonsil related symptoms improve.If it is too enlarged to cause snoring or sleep disturbances consult your physician for need of surgery.
