Is Breast Cancer Surgery Safe For An Elderly Woman?

Hello doctor, My grand mother is 80yrs old. she has carcinoma rt breast T4N0M0. from the past 4months she has undergone chemotherapy with injections MTX 50mg, 5-FU 900mg, ENDOXIN 900mg. and now the doctor has suggested to do operation. can u plz suggest me whether the operation can be done for this patient or not?

Hi. Operation can be done on patients even older than your grand mother if they are able to tolerate such operations. There are risks associated with every procedure and they depend on age of patient, length of anaesthesia and time to recover from operations effect. Before operation, the patient is seen by anaesthetist who assess function of heart and lungs along with other tests. If her surgeon and anaesthetist agrees to operate, she can have this operation.Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
